With two anti-gun Colorado state legislators recently voted out of office and a third retiring facing another recall election its clear that gun control isnt the non-issue so many in office assumed it would be.
Now several legislators are working to repeal the laws passed early last year in Colorado, with a new package of house bills that would roll back the recent changes.
Although Colorado citizens recently voted to recall two proponents of the gun control package, including then state senate president John Morse and senator Angela Giron, the Democratic Party still holds a majority by one vote. A third recall attempt against sen. Evie Hudak resulted in Hudak resigning, allowing the majority to select their own replacement candidate.
But before they can be voted on they must first pass the State, Veterans, and Military Affairs Committee, which is known informally as the kill committee. The committee votes on whether or not proposed legislation hits the state house or senate floor.
The committee has been used by both parties to knock back legislation that is unpopular with the majority, explains the Colorado Second Amendment Association.
The bills listed below include several that would outlaw parts or all of the 2013 gun laws forced upon us by agenda-based, out-of-state interests. The passage of those laws was so onerous that it resulted in Colorados first recalls of sitting state legislators by a citizenry insulted and ignored by its elected government. These may very well be some of the most important bills that we are going to see pass through our Legislature this year. Yet the bills were sent to their respective kill committee, in what could easily be viewed as another sign of contempt for the voting public of Colorado.
Six bills have been proposed, including house bills HB 14-1063 (.pdf), Deadly Force Against Intruders At Businesses and HB 14-1151 (.pdf) Repeal Ammunition Magazine Prohibition and senate bills SB 14-038 (.pdf) Governor Cannot Restrict Firearms During Emergency, SB 14-090 (.pdf) No Background Check For Step-relations, SB 14-094 (.pdf) Background Checks And Fees For Gun Transfers (to repeal mandatory background checks for face-to-face transfers) and SB 14-100 (.pdf) Repeal Large-capacity Ammunition Magazine Ban.
Two of these bills, HB 14-1062 and SB 14-090 seek expand on gun rights, even if the other bills do not go to the floor or do not pass.
Currently the Colorado House State, Veterans, and Military Affairs Committee has a democratic majority of seven to four, and the Senate State, Veterans, and Military Affairs Committee has a democratic majority of three to two.
Still, with the recent recall elections and polls showing increased calls to repeal existing gun control laws, it may not be business as usual for the committee. And the magazine capacity limit, by far the least popular of all the recently-passed gun control bills, is facing repeal in both the state house and state senate.
The magazine ban and the mandatory background check bills are still headed toward the courts, as well.
Originally backed by an overwhelming majority of the states sheriffs, a judge recently ruled that the law enforcement agents could not sue the state as civil servants. The ruling did allow them to hang on as plaintiffs, joining the gun rights and civil rights organizations and manufacturers also backing the suit, including Magpul, who is moving manufacturing of all their products to Texas and Wyoming in protest of the new laws.
Gun rights supporters have rallied across the state following the passage of the gun control package. Recently the town council of Castle Rock, Colo. repealed a decade-old ban on the practice of open-carry, by a vote of four to three.
My point-of-view is to restore the constitutional rights to the people of Castle Rock, said Mayor Paul Donahue to the Coloradoan. Donahue supported the repeal.
Our freedoms are constantly being stripped away and the decision to repeal the open carry ban sets Colorado on a course of restoring freedom, rather than limiting it. Castle Rock Second Amendment supporters stood up for their rights and in doing so have invigorated gun rights supporters across the country, said political director Joe Neville of the Rocky Mountain Gun Owners foundation.
The 2 recalls and 1 resignation is the tip of the iceberg. Payback is coming and the ComDems should be very afraid.

Maybe it’s Colorado, not Texas or Georgia or Alabama or Kansas or Tennessee or Virginia, where the true hope for the seeds of restoration lie.
Seriously laughing my ass off. Good for you folks in Colorado. New we see why Obamadork is making gun edicts his top priority.
I’m actually thinking quite seriously about moving to Colorado within the next few years, mostly for the elk hunting possibilities and the close proximity to other great hunting opprtunities.
Don’t count out those you listed. They have not had state legislatures pass what CO did. But we are all brothers in arms.
The first attempt to confiscate or register guns in the states you mentioned, will not be received well. Come and take it is still the attitude. You can take that to the bank.
I think Virginia is dead and gone as far as hope for bringing back American liberty, with the influx of DC and Maryland statists it is all over but the formalities. With the amount of illegals creeping their way into Texas and into the voting base undetected I don’t see how Texas can last much longer. Maybe the others, but I still don’t know. Even states like Tennessee seem to be overrun with race baiters and gangsters and other enemies of freedom; Memphis is pretty much at the same level as Detroit, Camden or Stockton.
You are too easily discouraged.
In TX there will be a hot war before that happens. You can take that to the bank.
That “Turn Texas Blue” garbage is just ComDem dribble.
Depends on the freedoms you’re talking about. Gun freedoms are doing pretty well in VA and the trend has been toward expanding those freedoms, not losing them.
Yeah, the pressure will always be on to hammer the CO Dems with their unconstitutional overreach. It’s only a matter of time before they go buh bye. Ha.
I know the gun crowd in CO.
This battle is not over yet.
No, it ain’t...
And let me remind you that 2 were recalled and 1 resigned over this over reach.
Handwriting is on the wall. Even the Blind ComDems can see this coming. That is why the 1 resigned, so they would not loose control of the Senate. Short term fix, but they know they are on the hunted list.
Hunters there are both GOP and Dems. But BOTH like their guns and like hunting. Only support for gun grab was in Denver & Boulder. CA ComDem imports shifted the vote.
Bump!
I know. I’m here in CO.
Well, I am proud of you and your friends.
Texas bump.
The dems want to make people think that Texas is sliding, but it's stronger and more conservative now than when Lyndon embarrassed all of us.

Yep.
(And THAT means that if someone looses their life because you took away means of self defense, you are an enabler of murder. One of these sad days this is going to occur and I hope some politician(s) pay dearly.
IN LIBERTY!!!!
We will test the resolve of the “kill-committee”, because their votes will be made public.
Wanna know who’s next in line for either recall, or just voted out?
