Red-light cameras are getting the heave-ho in this seaside city.
Saying he was following through on a campaign promise, Commissioner William Julian made a motion Wednesday to get rid of the cameras as soon as legally possible.

I hope this is the beginning of a tsunami of cities and states getting rid of red light cameras.
I think red light cameras at a few specified HIGH RISK intersections would be okay, but south Florida has become a surveillance-ridden area, where someone’s EVERY MOVE could be tracked.
I do not like it.
The motion passed 4-1, making Hallandale Beach the first city in Broward County to get rid of the cameras.
Mayor Joy Cooper dissented, saying the cameras help stop red-light runners and make the city’s streets safer.
They are so easy to beat with such little effort. Its a joke.
I used to look for them but now my Waze nav app warns me to them when I am driving, both voice and on app map display.
In this area many were removed because they were not generating enough $$$, some were causing accidents.
Recently a woman went missing in Margate (Broward County). There were pictures of her on Bus cameras, Surveillance Cameras, Red Light Cameras and traffic cameras, but these pictures did not help the authories at all. Her body was found by someone some time later.
All the surveillance in the city did nothing to either prevent or solve her murder, but it did reveal to “We The People” how our every move is monitored.
The purpose of these cameras has never been safety or crime prevention.
It’s all about money.
And spying on Americans.
Good...hope this is a trend statewide and nationwide. #1 purpose of cameras is for surveillance...not enforcement
Do you carry a cell phone? If you do, don’t complain about the ability to track your movements. If you carry the equipment they need to track you, you are asking to be tracked, IMO.
