Second wave of health-insurance disruption affects small businesses (25 MILLION cancellations)
Washington Post ^ | 1/11/14 | Ariana Eunjung Cha

Posted on 01/30/2014 1:38:57 PM PST by Libloather

When millions of health-insurance plans were canceled last fall, the Obama administration tried to be reassuring, saying the terminations affected only the small minority of Americans who bought individual policies.

But according to industry analysts, insurers and state regulators, the disruption will be far greater, potentially affecting millions of people who receive insurance through small employers by the end of 2014.

While some cancellation notices already have gone out, insurers say the bulk of the letters will be sent in October, shortly before the next open-enrollment period begins. The timing — right before the midterm elections — could be difficult for Democrats who are already fending off Republican attacks about the Affordable Care Act and its troubled rollout.

The Next Wave of Obamacare Cancellations

Writing in the New York Post, Betsy McCaughey does a pretty good job of rebutting Mr. Gruber. She estimates the number of people who will lose coverage is 25 million, which is the same estimate I’ve been using for some time now. But even she understates the problem by focusing entirely on the small group market.

The Washington Post isn't reporting the news as much as it is waving a flag for Obama to change the dates.

Not that any of us here didn't know that already.

I won’t hold my breath.

The Boy King will tell them to wait until after the November elections to mail them out.

Much like he did with the layoff notices for another election cycle . . . and like good little loyal subjects, they complied. I believe this was a defense contractor. Maybe it was Lockheed.

I'm just going on record: Those notices WILL NOT go out before the election.

Insurance companies will be strong armed into waiting by the WH.

I know that legally they have to go out in Oct, but we don't need no stinking laws.

Will this be enough to force the folks to take their heads out of their anal passageways? I hope so.

There is no way those cancellations are going out before the election. Obama will give an EO, the GOPe will be too scared to talk about it, and the sheeple are too stupid to see it coming.

Big Business hopes to dump the medical insurance costs right into the laps of their employees.

I got lucky with Blue Cross on the exchange. They actually sent me an invoice so I could pay by mail. Their online payment system still doesn’t work and it’s impossible to reach anyone there by phone to pay. Anyone that’s been trying to get through to them and couldn’t should not be punished with this.

Hey, it's not like everyone is losing their insurance. I mean really, you racists
just want Obama to fail. Give it a chance. Another ten years and it will work
out just fine.

Where it should be.
People are paying for their medical insurance anyway (whether they realize it or not). Better that it be more overt. Possibly they will be less passive about the true costs of health care if they know precisely who is paying for it with zero ambiguity.

I say the gop get a hold of all 25 million people getting cancelations and add them to a nailing list. Then, if the administration succeeds in strong arming the insurance companies into delaying until after the election in sending out the cancelation notices, then the gop sends out the cancelation notices before the election on behalf of the insurance companies.

Obama has a pen and he’ll use it to make sure the October enrollment is postponed until after the election. And the gop will say absolutely nothing. Yet they expect to take the senate running against obamacare. I doubt they’ll take the senate and may even lose the house.

No love for Obama or his frightful "care" in the WP comments section. None.

Here's a remark I especially like: If you like your doctor, change out your Democratic Senator in November.

We are soon going to get a political “Hail Mary” from 0bama.

By his words alone, via a website posting or a speech, 0bama will re-write HIS law again in order to buy time.

They know that most of their votes come from people that have absolutely no clue what is going on. The others that do know, will carry his water for the greater good.

There is nothing 0bama can’t accomplish given the retarded medias zombie-like support.

The media’s support is superficial of course, but they craft their message around “Guilt”. The guilt of being seen as heartless, judgmental.

This is where the battle is being fought.

The battle is between right and wrong. The battle is being able to say something is wrong.

We are living in a world that embrace’s uncertainty.

Everything is “subjective”, relative, and they are demanding their right to be ignorant. And the media supports them.

Large numbers of employers may decide they simply can’t afford to pay the additional premiums, especially now that the exchanges are operational. Plus, the exchanges offer a selection of health plans and subsidies that often are more generous than the employer can provide. Employers no longer have to feel guilty about sending their workers out into the individual market and the companies can relieve themselves of the enormous burden of selecting and administering a health insurance program. The savings in the Human Resources departments alone will be substantial.

This decision is a no-brainer for employers not subject to the employer mandate (under 50 workers), especially those with lower wage employees, but also makes sense for a whole lot of larger companies, too. Sure they may have to pay a fine, but that is small potatoes compared to the cost of providing coverage. I would expect the employers of some 50 million workers will make this decision — close to the 30% who told McKinsey three years ago that they would drop their coverage.

Obama can change the dates all he wants. It won't affect the tidal wave of small employers dropping coverage altogether. There will be no need for notices going out from the insurance companies on price increases. The employer will just terminate the policies. It is cheaper to pay the fines even there were minimal premium increases. Employers want to get out of the health coverage business.

See my post #17. Employers are going to force their employees into the exchanges with or without insurance company notices.

Of course it won’t change that tidal wave of cancellations.

But it will change the fall election outcomes.

Which explains the ambivalence of the Republican Establishment about Obamacare, why they will not willing to go the extra mile to kill it in October. The RinOS, even Cruz and Lee , I think, were surprised how bad the roll-out was. Who could have guessed how incompetent the White House is. Of course, the White House didn’t care how bad the product was. They knew that once the ship was launched, that no one would allow it to sink.
