Mitch McConnell, the leader of the Republican Party in the U.S. Senate, has low ratings among voters in his native Kentucky, according to a survey released Wednesday by Public Policy Polling.
According to PPP, 37 percent approve of McConnell's performance as a senator, and 51 disapprove.
He has a one point lead, 45-44, over possible Democratic contender Alison Lundergan Grimes.
Since the estimated margin of error for the survey is plus or minus about four percentage points, the senate race is essentially even.

What if he switches to Democrat?

What if he switches to Democrat?
To: Gaffer
Oh, he's conservative all right. Just like McCain and the other RINOs they swing hard right about six months before any election and then once past the any election they go back to clubbing in DC.

He’s a Senator. None of them are conservative.

Would Jim Bunning have the guts to support Bevins, after McConnell ran him out of the Senate.
To: jda
But you are arguing that no Republican should be challenged in the primary?
To: xzins
If they defeat Bevin in the the primary, they’ll lose in November. Then the GOPe will lecture Kentucky conservatives for not supporting their moderate. “The most important thing is to keep the senate,” they’ll say. Their insistence on keeping the marble mouth, lobbyists’ best friend is why they’ll lose.

Sorry, but I don’t accept any polling data from PPP as legitimate... They are a left-wing Democrat “polling” firm with a left-wing agenda and routinely skew their polls heavily in favor of Democrats.

I read the comment and knew exactly what the poster was saying.
Take the RINO out in the primary if it can be done.

(PPP) Pure Poppycock Polling also said that huckster was #1 amongst republican base voters and jebby bush-league is second. Cruz is around 96th. I’d believe carville before I’d believe anything PPP says... and I will NEVER believe a word that carville says.

No, just the opposite - the place to challenge RINOs is in the primaries. For instance, I am not supporting Cornyn in the primaries here in Texas. But, if unsuccessful in replacing the RINO in the primaries, we should then get behind the RINO in the election - for the most part, any Democrat will be even worse.
"Democracy demands an educated and informed electorate" - Thomas Jefferson
And, to me "electorate" means those who participate in the election process. So, to paraphrase: "Democracy demands the participation of those who are educated and informed."

Then the game the GOP is playing with us will continue forever. Not if we systematically replace RINOs in the primaries and then help get them elected.
The alternative is to allow Democrats to be elected - that would be the only thing worse than electing RINOs.

Jim Bunning never ever struck me as lacking in the guts department. I loved the guy because he was one of the few politicians who talked straight even if he rubbed quite a few people the wrong way.
I have no idea what he is doing now or how much cachet he still has with the Kentucky GOP. Does any Kentucky Freeper know?

A lot of these RINO would rather a DEM win than a Conservative. If they lose the primary to a Conservative, they will back DEM

I agree. Better to know your enemy than to have a supposed friend stab you in the back.
