Chet Curtis a long time newscaster, here in Boston, died a few days ago. He was one of the good guys. O’Reilly came up to Boston for the funeral and Howie Carr mentioned it on his show. Someone called in an asked what O’Reilly was really like and Howie said that what you see on TV is exactly who he is. From that remark, I automatically assumed that Howie thinks he’s an arrogant jerk. I guess he wasn’t much liked when he was on TV here.
Howie’s former sidekick VB said pretty much the same thing about what it was like to have BOR in the studio. At least BOR gave a couple blurb recommendations for a couple of Howie’s books.
I think O’Really sees himself as a pithy character, that most folks will like. I know folks who enjoy his program. I don’t.
Is he a well meaning guy? I actually think he is. He’s just too Liberally diffuse around the sides for me. He doesn’t get it in ways we do. I haven’t read his books. They may be of value, so he may be doing some good that I haven’t fully tuned in on.
I think it was a decent thing of him to attend the funeral of that guy. His family may have appreciated it very much.
What is the worst thing a Conservative can do, unintentionally? They can fill a slot and do a lousy job of it, when a more capable person could have taken the position and done wonders with it.
When the Left loses, in many instances they don’t really. By the winner going neutral, the Left wins anyway. Conservatism is not advanced, and that’s what must happen. If it doesn’t, Leftist norms are ensconced even more stridently.
