Ms. Pelosi, and her ilk, would not know "science" if it bit her in the butt. These folks are completely ignorant of the scientific method (or inductive method), first pushed forward by Francis Bacon - and prefer to deal in hysteria. Shouting it is 'settled science' is orthogonal to science.

Conway Zirkle, a science historian, had quite a bit to say about the corruption of science by politics — and none of it was nice.
