How much further aside can they step? They’ve already handed over their huevos, bent over time and time again, told us we didn’t have to be afraid of him, patted him on the head everytime he threw a hissy fit, let him steal at least two elections, put our heros in harms way, alienated our friends, intentionally bringing on an ecomonic crash, trashed the Constitution, took away our rights and all but eliminated every privacy we had so what’s left?
“You’ve very optimistic thinking there will be a next POTUS. Even if the next is Hillary and BJ again, it’ll be more of the same.”
Regardless, we still have to fight. Even if we lose, I couldn’t bear surrendering this once great country without a fight. American ideals like self reliance, liberty, and morality are worth fighting for. I’m not just going to curl up in a corner while the left dismantles everything our forefathers sought to create. If the left wants an oppressive state, there are plenty of other countries to choose from. America is ours!
If I were in the chamber, Id stand up and start blowing my duck call until they dragged me away.
But that threat wouldn't have any teeth becasue Obama know Reid would never let it pass through the Senate. Boehner could threaten not to raise the debt ceiling next month though - but Boehner has no balls and would wimp out.
It isn't intended to do that. It is a throwing down of the gauntlet, and the Wookie's husband wants to see what the reaction will be. If it is weak and timid, he'll go about instituting a dictatorship at breakneck speed. If it is strong, he'll back off a bit and for a little while, and try some other time.
Make no mistake, this one believes that he has the right to run this country all by his lonesome. Purging the military leadership over the last couple of years, and having lots of opposition figures charged with crimes or tied up with IRS investigations is just the tip of the iceberg. We are well and truly phocked if this guy isn't put back into his cage - which is to say, limited to the authority that a President is supposed to have under the Constitution, and not one iota more.
Exactly. The people of this country voted not only for him, but for a divided Congress that (by its very nature) could NOT do very much. I guess that We The People decided that the unified government of 2009-2011 wasn't all that great...and since we couldn't get rid of him that easily, the next best alternative was to tie him up as much as possible to reduce the future harm he could do.
EVERY SINGLE REPUBLICAN should stand up and walk out if he dares to utter such a thought. The ENTIRE Republican response (regardless of whether or not they walk out, which is regretably not too likely) should concentrate on this illegal and un-American power grab.
I am sure the Democrats will give him a standing ovation.
I don't think there's any doubt about it. Rand Paul is 'going native'.
The Constitution doesn't say that the President needs to give an address at all. It merely states that he is required to report on the state of the union. It can be delivered to Congress in written form, but Presidents love to take the opportunity of the SOTU to grandstand.

They should, but they won’t. In addition, the media will report this unprecedented power-grab as just another news item.
