BREAKING NEWS: Fla. Congressman to resign after cocaine scandal
970WFLA ^ | 1/27/14

A spokesman for U.S. Rep. Trey Radel of Florida says the congressman will resign after pleading guilty to cocaine-possession charges last year.

Dave Natonski says the freshman republican will step down Monday and will send a letter to House Speaker John Boehner.

Politico first reported the upcoming resignation.

On Nov. 20, Radel pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of cocaine possession and was sentenced to a year of probation. He admitted to purchasing 3.5 grams of cocaine from an undercover officer Oct. 29 in Washington.

Several GOP leaders had asked him to resign. But Radel had pledged to stay in office and rebuild constituents' trust after completing in-patient treatment for drug and alcohol abuse.

Radel had been in office for 10 months when charged. His district includes the gulf coast cities of Fort Myers and Naples.

At least he's doing the right thing, unlike other druggie politicians, such as Marion Barry, and that clown mayor of Toronto Rob Ford

They want real druggies may I suggest having Nancy Pelosi pee in a bottle. If she’s clean my name is Obama.

Another great job by our media in informing the voters about candidates.

The guy was always a roach. Read how he got elected. And he’s a carpetbagger from Cincinnatti and Chicago:

Republican 14th District Congressman Connie Mack IV decided not to run for reelection to his seat, in order to challenge Democrat U.S. Senator Bill Nelson. Radel decided to run in the open seat, which had been renumbered as the 19th District. Five other Republican candidates also filed to run. Controversy occurred when it was discovered that the campaign committee “Friends of Trey Radel, Inc.” had purchased his opponents’ domain names nearly a year before he announced he was going to run for office.[14] When this was revealed, he denied knowing about it, blaming it on staff, but eventually admitted he had purchased the domain names.[14] Subsequently, his campaign committee created websites and attached them to his opponents’ domain names, purportedly for the purpose of disseminating the voting records of the opponents, which were posted on the websites.[14] Radel’s political philosophy is conservative, but he nevertheless has said he supports the principles of the DREAM Act.[15] Radel was endorsed by the incumbent Connie Mack IV, former U.S. Senator Connie Mack III, and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.[16] Chauncey Goss (who finished second to Radel in the primary)[17] was endorsed by U.S. Congressman Paul Ryan.[18] He won the primary with 30% of the vote, primarily due to the strength of his showing in his native Lee County.[19]

There are many pitfalls in DC for Republicans who take a stand against the Clintons or Obama. Occasionally, these pitfalls are self inflicted, but the vast majority of the time, they are are set-ups or these people fall victim to false accusations as they were framed.

In this case, we have a tea party Republican in the chances are extreme that this was a warning shot from Obama against all tea Party Republicans.

Why resign? If he was a Democrat/ Marxist he would run to rehabilitation say he was sorry, and advocate for drug users to straighten up. HOW DAMN DUMB is the Republicans gonna get before they fight back, using the Marxist tactics???

What a crock! This was no warning shot from anywhere.

Dude wanted to party, so he bought himself an 8 ball, that’s one eighth of an ounce of cocaine.

Show us even one iota of evidence that this was not self inflicted, just one. Not holding my breath waiting, though.

If he was a ‘Rat, this would be a resume-enhancer. And the voters would re-elect him because they think he's cool, or it's “cute” to be an addict.

“carpetbagger? who isn’t these days? just sayin’.”

Yeah, really! I don’t know what I was thinking. Politicians are the highest-paid “migrant workers,” right behind school superintendents. But they’ve got a long way to match the financial “performance” of the SS’s! Just get yourself an employment contract with a district, pi$$ everyone off and pi$$ away a lot of money, and ergo, you’re “bought out” of that contract way early. Then it’s off to another unsuspecting district to do it all over again. Works really well if you’re a “black educator.”

Connie Mack, IV, will probably run to regain the seat then. People in FL never choose wisely, it seems.

Nancy strikes me as more of an alcoholic type.

If we routinely test workers in dangerous jobs for drugs and alcohol, wouldn't it make sense to test all politicians numerous times during their employment as representatives?

If we test baseball players who are just entertainers, why wouldn't we test politicians who hold our fate in their hands when they make laws that affect us in so many ways?

ABSOLUTELY. If a Kennedy, being drug addled, can smash his car into barricades and be driven home by the CAPITAL POLICE can go to rehab and get his seat back, why are THE STUPID PARTY telling this punk to give up? Our “leaders” are complicit in this coup. At this point if a Republican shot someone on TV he needs to deny, deny, deny.
