Chuck Schumer, the Senates No. 3 Democrat, thinks the Internal Revenue Service hasnt done enough to silence the Tea Party. He wants the White House and the IRS to immediately redouble efforts to shut down conservative political-action groups through tougher government oversight and enforcement.
In a speech last week to the liberal Center for American Progress, the senior senator from New York said, There are many things that can be done administratively by the IRS and other government agencies to silence groups that obstruct Democratic policies.
When several dozen conservative organizations applied to the IRS for nonprofit status in the run-up to the 2012 elections, they had to struggle through bureaucratic roadblocks and obstacles while the applications of liberal groups sailed through without a hitch. The government insisted this was mere coincidence, but Mr. Schumers remarks revealed the fire under the smoke.
In late November, the Treasury Department introduced a new rule to redefine and restrict the political activities of nonprofits. The administration says the revised regulations are needed to improve the way such organizations are regulated, but its obvious the rules were changed to thwart the legitimate politicking of the Tea Party.
Strengthening the IRS ability to make trouble for conservatives in politics is a priority for Mr. Obama and Harry Reid, the leader of the Democratic majority in the Senate. They regard the IRS scandal not as a scandal, but as a starting point for suppressing enemies.

Maybe the IRS needs to label and persecute the Tea Party the way the SS labeled and persecuted the Jews. That will shut them up.
!
Come reelection time, Schumer will run to the cops and firefighters none he hopes are pro life, pro gun, pro liberty.
Have the brazen ever prevailed?
Considering that tyranny is pretty much the human condition for most of history, it’s not surprising to see it rear its ugly head once again.
Levin spent most of his weekend recap show blasting away at “Schmucky” blow hard preaching fascist doctrine.
Where Levin missed his target is by not pointing out that the targets of Schumer’s fascist diatribe. Members and followers of the “Taxed Enough Already” movement the so called “tea party” are really independents. The same “independents” that carried Reagan into office.
The same independents Rove and the GOPES (gop elite snobs) claim to be seeking but like their fascist/ communist counter parts running the democratic in name only political party demonize.
We are talking about the same Republican Party, aren't we? The one run by it's National Committeemen and Committeewomen who met last week and reinforced the broken, possibly illegal presidential primary tournament system.
Even Ronald Reagan failed to institute the needed reforms you suggest. What faith does anyone have that the same broken primary process will not vomit forth another McCain, Romney or Dole?
After the filing deadlines for the 2014 congressional elections end, some less than a month from now, and more, after most of the primaries for those elections this year are over, the present GOP congressional leadership is openly planning to throw their supporters who believe in the Constitution under the bus by creating a junior class of citizenship for illegal aliens. They're more afraid of Chuckie Schumer than their own voting base, as suicidal as that surely is.
Wouldn't it be great if there was an opposition party in the United States?
“The IRS needs to label and persecute the Tea Party the way the SS labeled and persecuted the Jews. That will shut them up.”....
I believe you will find that on page $$, line ### in their ongoing plan. (sarc)
You’re probably correct.
