The gunman who killed two people at a Maryland mall was a teenage skateboarding enthusiast who had no criminal record before he showed up at the shopping center armed with a shotgun, plenty of ammunition and a backpack filled with crude homemade explosives, authorities said Sunday.
Darion Marcus Aguilar, 19, took a taxi to the Mall in Columbia in suburban Baltimore on Saturday morning and entered the building near Zumiez, a shop that sells skateboarding gear. He went downstairs to a food court directly below the store, then returned less than an hour later, dumped the backpack in a dressing room and started shooting, police said.
Shoppers fled in a panic or barricaded themselves behind closed doors. When police arrived, they found three people deadtwo store employees and Aguilar, who had killed himself, authorities said.

One important thing is that this is not in DC, but in the suburbs. These suburbs are the richest counties in the country. There are many blacks living there, but these are middle class to upper middle class professionals. His parents were likely married with college degrees. Very different from an aspiring rapper in Chicago. This would also fit the white school shooter mold.
The Navy yard shooter, the DC sniper, and the LA ex cop that went on a rampage were all black, so yes, blacks can and do commit mass shootings. But there is far less of a pattern with them than the white school shooters. And none of them committed suicide.
He was at just the right age when schizophrenia often strikes. Late teens, early twenties. Wonder if it might have been that?
Aguillar... sounds hispanic to me.
I guess it depends on how he identified himself.
Waiting on O’Malley to pass a shotgun ban next.
I dunno. I know plenty of guys who are “avid” at something and still hold down “grownup” jobs, like the 20-year mechanic who is also an avid fly-fisherman, and the senior email admin who is also an avid soccer player (at whatever the soccer equivalent of the Minor Leagues is). And don’t we (unfortunately) have a Secretary of State who is an avid wind/kite-surfer? Nothing wrong with being passionate about and good at some physical activity, however goofy it looks.
I’m guessing this shooter is more a case of hitting some kind of speedbump in his life, and then looking for answers on the wrong websites (4chan, I’m looking at you).
Who killed the Navy Yard shooter? He was black.
The odd thing is, at least one study has been done about middle class blacks, and they often seem to be affected more by black culture than middle class culture. Wish I could remember the study.
Ah- I remember - it was about school and learning.
Homicidal skate rat.
Maryland “Freak State” PING!
Navy Yard shooter was not a drug deal gone bad
possibly an attack of sudden late onset jihad but story has been wiped from the press
My gaydar is registering something on this guy.
Mine too with that photo.
No. Not at all.
Medications probably play a part, but video games don’t.
I’ve played plenty, I know people who have as well. I’m not about to grab a boomstick and go to town somewhere.
Same for movies, either we’re raised with values and morals, or we aren’t.
Yeah...there’s that, too.
as well as the DC shooters
I think you are over-simplifying a pretty complicated situation.
Video games may not have an effect on you or me, but it doesn't follow that they can't have such an effect.
My wife and I sometimes watch several "true crime" shows on TV. She will often have bad dreams as a result. I have unpleasant dreams about once every several years.
People are not all the same.
Don't misunderstand me. Just because there might be an effect does not justify having the government step in and "regulate" the situation. It's up to people to find their own way in life, avoiding things which are unhealthy for them and seeking their own success.
