I once said the same thing about leftists I knew. Back then I figured so what we are all Americans and chalked their foolishness up to immature idealism and left it at that.
Back then it was painful but it was live and let live - even though I felt they had done a terrible thing and sold America and her allies out to mass murder as an aftermath of their policies and aims in the Vietnam War. Most of them were too blind to really see what they were doing, I figured. Eventually most would grow up and see reality.
But that view is getting harder and harder to rationalize nowadays as the agendas of their real movers and shakers come out of the closet and their smiley masks come off. The agenda hasn't changed. It has just changed it's focus closer to home.
Of course, Lenin had a name for such "decent" and "well meaning" people whom they gulled. He called them useful idiots.
As far as I can see these days, the ultimate main difference between the present American Socialists and the defunct German National Socialists is the latter spoke German as their first language.
