A national newspaper chain with nearly 100 publications and 1.6 million readers is considering building state-by-state databases on concealed weapons permit holders, according to an internal e-mail.
The plan, laid out in an email from a top editor at North Carolina-based Civitas Media, could be similar to a controversial project a New York state newspaper carried out in 2012 which included an online map that identified gun owners in two counties by name and address. Civitas' database project was detailed the plan in a Jan. 19 e-mail to newsrooms in 11 states, including Ohio, Illinois and Pennsylvania.
The newest project "examines the explosion of conceal and carry gun permits across the U.S., wrote Jim Lawitz, Civitas director of content, in an e-mail first obtained by the Buckeye Firearms Association. Through public records act requests, we will attempt to build state-by-state databases that list those who have the right to carry a concealed weapon.

National newspaper chain? Hardly. National liberal propaganda and activism chain would be more accurate.

Each of the states that issue CCW permits has the very database he's talking about. They already exist. Expending any further effort on this fool's errand is superfluous; the states already have these lists. They obviously don't need anybody like this jackwagon to "assemble" them.

No big deal, that would include just about everyone legally in America who is 21, 18 in some states, who has not committed a felony or been found to be dangerous to themselves or others. We basically all have the right, many don’t choose to exercise it and others have forfeited it.

Mr. Bush:
If your group follows through with the idea of publishing information about those with concealed carry permits, will you allow me to run an ad in your newspapers that identifies the name and address of those among your 1400 employees that do not have such a permit? That would be a very lucrative ad for you.

I recall that several states made it illegal to publish such list.

According to
this article , this little project has been shelved... for now. Seems that the geniuses who thought this up didn't take into account little inconveniences like state privacy laws and such.

THIS is the Leftist that crafted the internal memo outlining Civitas Media's intent:
Jim Lawitz - Director of Content
Most recent role was vice president and editor of the Las Cruces Sun-News.
He has worked for Cox, Tribune, Scripps, MediaNews and independent publishing companies.
And here's his memo:

I wonder, have the CEOs of this media 'giant' contacted a security service to protect their editors the way that newspaper wound up doing last year?
You know, armed guards parked outside their expensive homes 24/hrs a day?
Because only people who are rich enough or important enough, like they are, deserve to be protected with firearms, right?
To: Doogle
It would be more useful to compile a list of people who are forbidden to carry a gun but carry one anyway.
To: duffee
Maine is one of those states that made it illegal to publish such a list, after the Bangor Daily News tried to obtain such a list last year for “research purposes.”
There was a big uproar here in Maine, and many democrats joined the republicans who voted to make it illegal to release the names of conceal-carry permit holders.

I believe you’d wind up with more volunteer help than could be used in compiling the data on the personnel at these papers engaged in this action.
Should be fun watching them squirm.
