The viral content blog Gawker published an article Friday headlined: The NRA Literally Wrote Floridas New Bill to Legalize Warning Shots. However, a brief investigation by the Free Beacon revealed that the NRA literally did not write Floridas new bill to legalize warning shots.
The Florida legislature is considering expanding the states stand your ground law to encompass threatened use of force. Specifically, the bill is intended to shield those who brandish a gun or fire a warning shot in self-defense from the states 10-20-Life law, which imposes mandatory minimum sentencing guidelines for felony crimes involving a firearm.
Gawker reporter Adam Weinstein wrote Friday that Marion Hammer, a former NRA president and lobbyist for the Unified Sportsmen of Florida, was responsible for writing and pushing the bill.
In an interview with the Free Beacon, Hammer said that was not the case.
We did not write it, Hammer said. Its Families Against Mandatory Minimums bill, and my understanding is that Greg Newburn and his staff wrote it. They just came to us and asked if wed endorse the bill.
Greg Newburn, the Florida director of Families Against Mandatory Minimums (FAMM), corroborated Hammers story.
Marion is correct, Newburn said via email. I asked for her help in reforming 10-20-Life, and shes been tremendously helpful in that effort. But the NRA had nothing to do with writing the original bill.
FAMM is a nonprofit organization that advocates for state and federal sentencing reform, specifically the repeal of mandatory minimum sentencing guidelines.

Liberals never let something as petty as being 100% wrong stop them.

She left the house and entered the attached garage, retrieved a gun, re-entered the house, and fired a "warning shot" at her husband (my bet is she fired wildly at him to "show" him). She then tried to claim "stand your ground," but she didn't want to actually kill. It was denied. She was found guilty - she was given a mandatory sentence.
George Zimmerman justifiably shot Traytable. Gun grabbers and racists (redundant) tried to make the Zimmerman case about Stand Your Ground; it wasn't. They tried to make it about race; it wasn't.
They tried to say that there is only justice for white, and apparently "white hispanic," males and pointed to this woman as an example since she was sentenced to better than a decade.
Once again, Marion Hammer proves to be savvy and public-spirited as the executive of Florida’s NRA affiliate; and once again, the news media gets essential facts wrong for the sake of making a false attack on her and the NRA.
Gawker and its affiliate sites such as Deadspin are on the wrong side of almost every issue.
“Gawker Got Literally Everything Wrong “
Could be printed everyday and would be accurate.
You are welcome.
This is the reason why officers cannot discern open carrying of long rifles, with brandishing. It leaves it to interpretation. And stupidity.
Too great to pass up Blood - may I steal for a tag?
Sure
Thanks.
Due to the increased cost of ammunition, do not expect a warning shot.
