Richard Sherman: ‘I’m Really Disappointed In Being Called A Thug’

RENTON, Wash. (CBSNewYork/AP) — Richard Sherman wondered if he came to the NFL 20 years too late.

The Seattle Seahawks’ All-Pro cornerback wondered if his swagger might have fit better a few decades earlier when that confidence and an unfiltered tongue was perhaps more accepted.

“I studied the old school game more than I studied the new school game, and I play it that way. It rubs a lot of people the wrong way,” Sherman said Wednesday. “Giving a true speech after a game, a true passionate speech is old school football. Playing press corner and sitting up there every play is old school football. I guess maybe I just haven’t adjusted to the times.”

See my post #95. Richard Sherman was trying to be a “true gentleman,” but look what he got from the sore loser, Michael Crabtree. Crabtree is the unsportsmanlike player who was acting like the ill-mannered jerk that he was.

Dude, we admire the players who act like sportsmen at all times. He should have been magnanimous in the face of Crabtree's disrespect. If he had, the sports world would be singing Sherman's praises.

Sherman is a great athlete but he is not yet a great sportsman or a great gentleman. He has time. But he has to learn from this, not just blame others.

I have known more thugs dressed like Col. West than dressed like Mr. Sherman.

Must be something more than what we see here.

When the female reporter first asks Sherman about the last play, and he clarifies, “They shouldn’t be talkin’ about me like that”... he’s obviously knows something else had been going down.

Makes me wonder with the way he approached Crabtree if it wasn’t to more gloat or lure a sucker punch, than to shake his hand. The quickness with Sherman’s race after Crabtree almost made it appear premeditated.

"The column explains Sherman's side of the story. Read his other columns. He is a good columnist--and smart. "

Agreed. But he still needs to shed the last vestiges of those Compton roots. He has time, he's still young.

I believe this is all a big publicity stunt - and it’s working well.

It was Sherman’s post game interview with Fox Sports reporter Erin Andrews that everyone’s talking about. What were these later comments that no one heard?

". . . when the game is over, shake hands and say “Good Game” like they do during the Stanley Cup playoffs when the series is over."

Richard Sherman did shake hands and give hugs to the 49ers. However, look at my photo I give in Post #95. Sherman was saying, "Hell of a game! Hell of a game!" as was holding his hand out for a hand shake. All Sherman got was a stiff arm in the face mask from that dolt, Michael Crabtree.

Shame on sore loser, Michael Crabtree.

Saddam Hussein, and his kids all looked good in suits. Well groomed too. Nelson Mandela looked good in a suit. So did our little friend Adolf. I tell you who could really make a suit look good. John Gotti. Ben Bernaki looks good in a suit. So does Obama.

Now who has stolen more money? Mr Sherman or Ben Bernaki?

Who cracked more heads? Uday Hussein or Mr. Sherman?

you must see the footage of what happened that set Sherman off. After a game, it is customary to shake hands and tell the opposing team members that you appreciated their part in the game. That is what Richard Sherman did! In fact, he was seen giving 49ers not only hand shakes, but hugs. Not with Michael Crabtree. All Sherman got from him was a stiff arm to the face mask. I played football and you are supposed to act with sportsmanship. You are also quite excited after winning an important game. You probably would not know about that. Oh well.

I saw the game and know OF the controversy but I don’t know the whos and whats.

I don’t have a tv so I haven’t been exposed to the countless Zapruder like examinations of the footage, what I recall was from game day.

I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that he “did” approach peacefully.

Who was the Seattle player who held his own hands up to his throat in what appeared to be a “CHOKE!” gesture (like “you guys CHOKED at the big game, ha ha!”)? And what was the chronology of it? It was a quick replay clip at the end of the game (I think before the on camera interview, or possibly afterwards).

The rude behavior that Sherman experienced from Crabtree goes back to last summer. It was at a Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald’s charity event when Richard Sherman approached Crabtree and held out his hand for a hand shake. Instead, Crabtree tried to start a fight! It is Crabtree that is the scoundrel.

Evidently, it was the other guy who threw popcorn in the face of the guy who shot (his mouth.)

No crickets, just cobwebs in your head.

You can stop a video anywhere you wish to make any appearance that you choose.

The entire Seahawk team plays dirty every game, and when they are at home they have the zebra crew in their pocket, as anyone that watched that game can assure you.

Even denying a turnover that was shown on every camera angle that was available. Didn’t matter where they stood, it was clear who had recovered the ball.

Below is the footage that I have seen. I did not see any “choke hold” gestures there. This footage has the sounds captured by the on field parabolic mics:

Dude, I agree but even you know that bad behavior doesn't justify more bad behavior.

Look, Sherman's feelings were hurt because people called him a thug. Well, for those 30 seconds on national TV he acted like a thug.

If his feelings weren't hurt this controversy wouldn't have legs. But he wants fans to view him as a Stanford gentleman. Therein is the problem.

A Stanford gentleman would not use a snub to justify his descent to bad behavior.
