Put this in your pipe and smoke it Colorado, because you arent getting married without first attending state-mandated, premarital education classes at least if the same voters who legalized weed will now allow in such a big-government proposal.
According to the proposed initiative, which will require 86,105 signatures to place the issue on the November ballot, the Denver Post reported, first-time couples wanting to wed would be required to attend 10-hours of marriage education, second-time couples 20-hours, and if its your third trip down the proverbial aisle . . .

I see a big uptick in weddings in surrounding states.
Roger that. All this would do is encourage more couples to have kids without getting married in the first place.
Premarital education classes - For the ever shrinking percentage of the population who bother with the formality of a marriage.
All should remember that once the sentient residents of Colorado exterminate Boulder and Denver, the state’s IQ will be raised by 20 points min, and consumption of Obama stimulants will be cut by a vast amount.
This needs an immediate challenge if passed. If the challenge would work, I couldn’t guess, courts being what they are.
Well, think of all of the jobs it will create for government appointed pyschologists... who will refer some cases for more intervention, get child-protective services involved, make those engaged couples register to vote, send them on to some community organizers to be sure they can sign up for their 0bamaphones.... it will have a huge ripple effect for free stuff programs.
Get rid of no-fault divorce.
Of course, I wouldn’t put anything past the citizens (and illegal alien voters) of this benighted nation.
But if I were a gambling man (which thankfully I am not), I would bet that this initiative won’t even win enough signatures to make it onto the ballot, let alone prevail in the election.
What has happened to this once reliably RED state?
Gun control
Marijuana
Pre-Marital Classes
What’s next? Pre-baby making classes? Are you qualified to be a parent? Starting to sound like the Chicoms have invaded. Maybe Red Dawn is upon us afterall.
No no, we should use this to clobber the left with...
Maybe make all people who want to get married have to sit though long long classes and cover ALL of the STDs and HOW they are caught with an emphasis on the ones that get caught during “non-traditional sex”....
What would be more hilarious than having a Ghey Male couple have to sit through a long class about the documented health dangers and effect of anal “intercourse” on the human body....
But yeah, I agree with you we should not be interfering. I see this as an opportunity for government grifters to feather their own nest.
so if you want to shack up... you don’t have to do anything, but if you want to get married you have to take a class?
why is there a war on marriage?
The State of Michigan thrust something like this upon me years ago.
When the AIDS epidemic really got rolling (and in a supreme effort to try and hide the fact that 99% of its victims were gay men), the State in it’s wisdom decreed that all of us hetero couples about to be married must attend a three-hour public health lecture on AIDS prevention.
I learned how to protect myself doing activities I never would have thought of in a million years, had it not been for the generosity of the taxpayers of Michigan.
This will never pass.
It’s like the proposed local ordinance in Concord, MA, which would have required that all cats be walked on leashes outside of the home. Right...
One has to wonder if all this crap will backfire and start hurting Colorado’s tourism business? Or if people will just go their and hold their breath thru the dope-smoke and gun-grabber state while skiing and doing all the other things that bring millions of dollars in every year.
Absolutely. Divorce is too easy.
As for these classes, it’s nice to see a legislature standing up for the sanctity of marriage for a change.
The Catholic Church has had a similar requirement for more than half a century.(Pre Cana Conferences) It does no harm and often opens the eyes of young soon to be wed people who are temporarily blinded by a severe hormone rush. That being said I do not believe it is any business of the state, church yes, state NO!
Having attended Pre Cana conferences that were conducted by celibate nuns and priests, I’d have to say they were wholly out of their element. I actually felt bad for them.
“As for these classes, its nice to see a legislature standing up for the sanctity of marriage for a change.”
Right, we need the government to give us permission to marry. After first running through the gauntlet of their experts.
No thanks; I prefer the principals of freedom that our country was founded on.
Is this class the same regardless of the sex pairing of the couples?
Same lessons for man-woman as man-man and woman-women?
