I forget to mention that we also own the iPads and iPods.
I have a windows 8 notebook, and it took a while to learn to turn it off. My best suggestion . . . forget all the boxes of stuff Windows wants you to use. Put all your stuff on the desktop. Use desktop for EVERYTHING!
Windows 8 may be nice with a hand held touch screen but it sucks for a laptop or desktop OS.
Windows 7 is the way to go with either of those (if you want a Windows based OS).
>> “If you can’t figure out how to turn it off, it’s a Windows 8”.
We have one Win8 computer, and I’ll admit it’s a love/hate relationship.
The biggest problem I have with ALL of the “tablet” or “smartphone” devices is this: “How the F do you QUIT!!! an APPLICATION??!?” I just want to make the dxmn thing GO AWAY and I often can’t figure out how to accomplish that.
I hate this OS as well but what I have done was pinned to the task bar only the things I use on a daily basis and ignore the rest. Makes things so much easier for me.
8 blows. From what I understand, they try to fix some of what’s wrong with 8 in 8.1, but in reality it’s just a picture of what the fix would be (Start menu). Leave it to MicroShaft to spend years and millions screwing up something simple, then be unable to put it back right.
How can you get rid of those boxes and place those on your desktop?
It’s a real pain in the donkey. Can’t use the pad to scroll. You have to use the darn screen. Unless, of course, you use the up/down arrows using your cursor.
I bought a laptop for my daughter for Christmas and I couldn’t believe how bad Windows 8 is. I installed a program called StartIsBack that made the interface look like Windows 7. It’s much much better now.
Welcome to the club. It’s as if they designers are zealot gamers, and they designed the OS so that you have to play Windows 8 Portal.
That is why I downloaded Startisback..great little app, puts the little windows button right on the desktop screen, put that in the second I got my Dell desktop with Windows 8. Ive never gone back to the tile screen so my PC looks just like windows 7
Unless you put in a small amount of work to use the Windows 8 desktop by default, then it's a better version of Windows 7.
Is that why Windows 8 has basically destroyed Windows based desktop sales?
HP is bringing back Windows 7.

:^D Don’t tempt me.
Just about every PC is slow out of the box because of the bloatware included with the computer that subsidizes the costs. Just use a program like pcdecrapifier that takes off the bloatware and use the Windows free antivirus and the computer will be very fast and smooth.
If they really wanted to build sales, they'd bring back XP. Probably the best operating system Micro$oft will ever have.
At least 7 is functional, not garbage like Vista.
My brother bought his “new” Toshiba laptop off the Toshiba canada site with Win7 over Christmas. Apparently, you have to request it from what he learned and they almost never tell their customers they actually still sell the laptops with W7.
Windows 8 is awful and windows 7 is better but I can’t deal with PC’s because they are junk!Buy a Mac and get away from the windows OS and you will be a much happier camper!I learned my lesson years ago!
Do you still see the My Computer stuff etc on Starisback? Our receptionist started crying after she got her computer with W8, even weeks later.
