‘We Still Stand by What We Believe’: Bakers Who Refused to Make a Gay Wedding Cake Double Down
The Blaze ^ | January 20, 2014 | Billy Hallowell

Officials in Oregon have ruled that Sweet Cakes by Melissa, a bakery that made national news after refusing to make a cake for a gay wedding last year, violated a lesbian couple’s civil rights.

Owners Aaron and Melissa Klein, Christians who oppose same-sex unions, reacted to the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries’ ruling in an interview with KATU-TV, telling the outlet that they stand by their convictions.

“We still stand by what we believe from the beginning,” ( said Aaron Klein). “I’m not sure what future holds, but as far as where we’re at right now … it’s almost as if the state is hostile toward Christian businesses.”

“..does anyone this side of the White Doe have any public balls over this”

You would have dig up some back issues of National Review long before the kiddy cons and girly boys took over.

"So, you are saying that if a graphic design firm is approached by a pornographer, they have to create pornography for them?"

If it was legal, the judge would, to be consistent. And other examples abound. Would a homosexual baker be charged for refusing to make a custom cake celebrating the anniversary of the AFA ?

That point was discussed on another thread a few weeks ago, and someone borught up the leftie double standards, where hotels have cancelled the reservations of Christian groups and ex-gay conferences due to pressure from gay activists, and even recently a gay hairstylist refused to cut the hair of government official opposed to gay marriage, but I have not yet heard of anyone on the traditional side suing over stuff like that; anyway, it is doubtful a lefty judge would find for them. The DOJ has been behind the scenes on turning away from equal justice in favor of PC, such as the brazen refusal to prosecute black-on-white hate crimes and voter obstruction.

In my decades of running a private business, I turned away many clients for political or personal reasons. Sometimes I told them why, sometimes not. I did not do business involving gambling, alcohol or adult entertainment, nor any sort of imitation of someone else's work just different enough to avoid copyright infringement, and several other things. Cannot imagine being forced to create something against which I would be morally opposed. I'm glad these bakers and the wedding photographer in another state are standing up. Now it's up to the SCOTUS either to stand for the constitution as written, or completely, totally sell out. After the Obamacare decision, I'm not holding my breath.

Ad that to the collection of this manner of duplicity.

Commendable discrimination.

Find the right analogy, and you can make your point even with a lefty, if they’re not yet hardened beyond hope. I’ve seen it happen.

Yep. We need a conservative equivalent of the ACLU that will prosecute (or defend) these cases pro bono. The Thomas More Law Center has a great track record for defending conservative causes, but they’ve never taken on a homo case that I know of.

I’d be glad to contribute to such an organization.

Take your pick: these are among the top choices of groups that recognized the crying need decades ago and got the ball rolling, certainly including The Thomas More Center:

Alliance Defending Freedom
Legal pro bono ministry since 1994 that advocates for the right of people to freely live out their faith through strategy, training, funding, and litigation. Donate button at upper right of home page

American Center for Law and Justice
Litigation, legal services, training law students from around the world in order to protect religious liberty and safeguard human rights and dignity; founded 1990. Donate button on upper right of home page.

Liberty Counsel
Dedicated to advancing religious freedom, the sanctity of life, and the family since 1989; pro bono assistance and representation, publishing, multimedia, assistance to Liberty law school. Donate button on home page masthead.

The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty
HobbyLobby and DOJ nun bullying case, among many others. Since Support Us button at upper right of home page

Thomas More Law Center
Pro bono defense of America’s Judeo-Christian heritage and moral values, to preserve a strong national defense and a free and sovereign USA; since 1998.. Donate button on upper right of masthead.

I should have included 1994 in the description of Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, above.

That’s true. But I see some well-meaning folks, true in every other regard, get caught up in the MLK sham. I don’t understand it.

I should have done my homework better. I’ll check these out and donate to the one I find most credible as a bulwark against creeping homo-ism.

Ok, I’ll bite. MLKJR was flawed. Like everyone. Including you and me. What we can remember is that he stood against the people (democrats) who would say that a person was of less value because of their skin color. Our founding document says that ALL MEN are created equal, endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights- life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That’s what his legacy stands for, and if embracing that is the “tyranny of political correctness by some conservatives opportunists posturing as conservatives”, then I am not a conservative. Sometimes the people on this site make me smh.

It’s not like the media has been helping people to know about such organizations!

Shake your head at what? The truth? I guess you'll have to keep shaking it, then, because I cannot and will not join in the fawning over MLK.

Your post proves my earlier point. MLK was "flawed." He wasn't noticeably different from John Kerry in his viewpoints, so why do we (rightfully) savage Kerry but tiptoe around King?

You can say King stood against the Democrats all you like, but the facts show that he WAS a leftist. He promoted big-government liberalism, a cradle to grave nanny state, racial quotas, affirmative action, and expanded welfare spending. He was a pacifist who supported and defended the Viet Cong; he had numerous Communist ties of his own.

King helped lay the foundation for the welfare state which has ruined the black family. That's his legacy. But few are willing to look at it truthfully.

The analogy which works for me is you couldn’t force any minister to perform the wedding; how can you force someone to make the cake?

Yeah, we all know jf’nk has taken a stand against the ideology of the left. Um, never.

Rant all you want. MLKJR is remembered for his stand regarding equal rights for ALL, as outlined in our founding document.

Ministers in Canada who refuse to perform same-sex weddings are being prosecuted.

The ultimate goal of the homosexual movement is to destroy the Church as we know it, to take it over and set policy.

"Yeah, we all know jf’nk has taken a stand against the ideology of the left. Um, never."

MLK WAS a member of the left, and yet you seem unable to acknowledge it. Why?

"Rant"

(tell the truth)

" all you want. MLKJR is remembered for his stand regarding equal rights for ALL, as outlined in our founding document."

Yes, I see you're invested in sticking your fingers in your ears, closing your eyes, and humming loudly while sticking to your talking points. Carry on, then.

Yeah, in upholding the tenets of the Declaration of Independence MLKJR sure upheld the policies of the left. Cough. Not sticking my fingers in my ears. Just acknowledging the truth.

Nice post

Kilowatt is historically PC on black stuff here.

It often clouds the empiricism of self proclaimed quasi Conservatives

They deny or omit or ignore or parse over that King was a VC sympathizing socialist was as you noted no better than Kerry.

King was no different than the men standing on the range at the Lorraine that day he was murdered by Ray.

The reasons most public conservatives today along is because they are afraid and lack courage.

Kings faults for a conservative to claim him are way beyond simple whoring and plagiarizing....I could sure overlook the whoring same as I do Patrons niece..ahem.

He was the enemy who we claim to detest yet today nearly all embrace or try even to claim as one of our own

Based nothing more than largely borrowed yet uncredited words spoke glowingly to a fawning media by a soon to be martyred socialist icon to be coveted by the right....he spoke flowery but acted pure leftist.....remind us of a anyone?

You really can’t make this stuff up

It is this obsession with redress for anything racist sexist homophonic or religious bigotry or bad for the planet and so forth that instructs me....particularly on race

That there is no chance to stop this train wreck short of violence

And that all this well meaning but lacking in fortitude public conservatives will mean nothing.... not even footnotes once the reset begins

They are just as much a part of the problem as the RINOs and Vichy GOP they eschew

Pity....Levin shows promise but he falls way short on this little contention
