When my Grandmother was a little girl, travel from her rural home to the nearby town for supplies was a two-day trip with her “Pa” by horse and wagon, an adventure she always remembered with great pleasure. As she lay dying (in her nineties), her last words were, “It's Pa! And he's coming for me in the wagon!”

In her last hours, my mother was laughing and joking with those who had already passed. Her last words were, “Open up this door, I’m coming in.”

The story brought a tear to my eye, then again, I lost my mother on November 18th.

She had inflammatory breast cancer, very aggressive and triple negative (resistant to all chemo drugs) so it took her life. It spread to her brain and on the last day of her life, she went into a coma. I told her my goodbyes as she lay in bed and how much I loved her and thanked her for everything. I said to her, "I have to go, time to feed the kitties." I wasn't there when she passed, a side of me wishes I could been there but then again, maybe it would have been worse for me. Still, I felt good to say my parting goodbyes and so on. I'm sure she is in Heaven now with her sister, parents, friends and pets that have passed on. I miss her deeply but there are times I feel she is close to me and still "advises" and guides me when I ask for help.

Many years ago, my mother told me about her father’s death. She was a very young woman, when my grandfather died at home, as most people did in those days, the 1920s. She told me that his last words were, “Mama and Papa”.

Years later, that story came back to me while I was doing some reading about people who have come back from near death experiences. So I suppose my grandfather was actually seeing his parents.
