Libs sure love to make political hay out of the Thomas Jefferson/Sally Hemmings relationship, to the point of discrediting all the work Jefferson did in architecting a new form of government. Seems a bit ... duplicitous? ... that these same people act as apologists for King’s “indiscretions.”
Stone managed to do a 3-hour movie on JFK that omitted Jack’s dalliances. Granted, it was about the assassination, but still he was presented in the beginning as an ideal husband, father, and president. Interestingly, with the negative portrayals of homosexuality in JFK, he probably couldn’t get THAT script approved today
Would we be any better of if Oliver Stone didn't tell the true story he did in "Born on the Fourth of July"?
...but blasphemous movies about Jesus are totally cool with Hollywood.
If they did a movie on George Washington today at least three quarters of it would be about him owning slaves, but mlk was a saint
Sounds like the King family is protecting the legacy of its patriarch. That’s what good families do.
“Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs.”
“Grievances” is the convenient canard for Blacks that allows them to think that they can avoid any real consequences for their anti-soclal behavior. it’s actually sad now that they are finally suffering death at the hands of non-Blacks who have had enough, and based on the daily press accounts posted here on FR from around the country, they are not quick learners.
Somehow I thought the family was involved in a number of lawsuits. Didn’t they sue Boston University to get back The Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King’s papers?
The Reverend who cavorts with prostitutes and assaults them, the Doctor who plagiarizes his dissertation. But then he was also a communist.
A good family protecting his legacy? Ah, that’s why they wanted his papers back. They didn’t want researchers finding more plagiarism.
You really have not paid too much attention to this subject, have you?
The King Family Demands $800,000 to Use MLKs Image
The Shameless Profiting from the MLK Memorial
Harry Belafonte is Suing the Family of Dr. Martin Luther King
Mercedes tries to use Martin Luther King's image to drive car sales:
The King family's efforts to commercialize King's legacy have drawn periodic criticism, beginning in 1997 when the family struck a multimillion-dollar deal with Time Warner to produce recordings of his speeches and books based on his writings. The family's supporters said the arrangement would spread King's message and help support the nonprofit King Center for Nonviolent Social Change in Atlanta.
King's heirs licensed the footage to Mercedes for an undisclosed fee through their for-profit company, Intellectual Properties Management of Atlanta. IPM's representatives didn't respond to requests for comment
They are doing quite well financially in doing so. Read as much of the linked LA Times piece as you can stomach.
I always thot that if streets, etc., need to be renamed they should have been called “Rosa Parks.” She was the real gutsy one. the rest, King-Jackson-Sharpton cabal just made an industry out of victimhood.
There’s supposedly some FBI audio tape recordings of King’s trysts. That’d make for some interesting audio.
The sentence that stood out to me was Stone saying he did an intensive re-write of the script. What that means is he polished it a little here and there then claimed co-writer status.
Good grief. I stand corrected. tsk
The whole event was staged to provide a catalyst for a pre-planned boycott of the bus lines.
I took it as he wrote the script and then had to rewrite it in an effort to placate the studio and the MLK family.
I’m old enought to remember back before the “March on Washington” and before MLK was thought of as a “saint”. He was a speaker and civil rights activist. Period.
I don’t know if it was mere propaganda, or the truth leaking out, but rumor had it that MLK regularly cheated on his wife and family. Remember, in those days the press ignored JFK and LBJ’s philandering. If the subject didn’t concern the man’s job or his family life, it didn’t appear in the newspapers of the day.
My dad heard from a sheriff’s deputy who escorted and provided security for MLK’s bus that the reverend and his entourage welcomed the services of other “escorts”.
He may well have been lying through his teeth, but with all the money, fat egos, fame, and building adulation surrounding the man, I’m almost certain they had their women followers. Surely, these girls were dealt with, one way or the other, but I doubt anyone read to them from the bible.
Currently, there is probably more to be gained by the family, and others who glom off the MLK legacy by perpetuating the “sainthood” myth. Among other honors, it got their family member a memorial statue on the Washington Mall.
As the present generations fade, race-baiting becomes less lucrative, and the cash flow at the MLK Foundation slows, look for books and biopics to surface about MLK, the man.
It probably won’t happen in my lifetime, but eventually the pigeons will poop and the truth will out.
Frankly, I care less about whether the MLK movie talks about his serial adultery than I do about it acknowledging his ties to Communism. The way I see it, Oliver Stone’s version was going to be a hagiography with a little adultery sprinkled in, but whitewashing the things that made King truly dangerous. There were plenty of Civil Rights heroes that weren’t Communists that we should honor before honoring MLK.
