On the face of it, his comments concerning race and his approval are true, seem calm rational and considered. BUT he is the President of the United States. Completely inappropriate in that context. If he wants to be a distant aloof commentator fine. But he isn’t. He is The President who makes bad policy. He is a small vain man making excuse for bad policy decisions as an outcome of a foreign ideology and a confused outlook. Let Bush answer a question like that and the NYT decried him as ducking personal responsibility.
