BOSTON A federal appeals court on Friday upheld a judge's ruling granting a taxpayer-funded sex change operation for a transgender inmate serving a life sentence for a murder conviction, saying receiving medically necessary treatment is a constitutional right that must be protected "even if that treatment strikes some as odd or unorthodox."
U.S. District Judge Mark Wolf ruled in 2012 that the state Department of Correction must provide sex reassignment surgery for Michelle Kosilek, who was born as Robert Kosilek and is serving a life sentence for the killing of his wife in 1990.

So then, does he/she/it go to the women’s prison after the sex change? How does that work?
Can I also ask a stupid question? We’re going to give this surgery to someone imprisoned for murder, someone who may well be there for life. What is the point of doing this surgery on someone who may never get to live out his/her life in the world as the gender of their choice????
My questions exactly. They also have this $50k to do this, but no money to give to our Vets. They just continue to cut back money for them.
Judge, please define “medically necessary”.
Anyone in prison for LIFE should get the minimum amount of care - comfort care. No life-extending medicines or surgeries.
It is confirmed. The inmates are in charge of the asylum.
Just one more reason why there should be one mass tax strike in this country. As we have seen with illegal immigration, if everyone does it then it’s OK.
This seems to be ELECTIVE surgery- I am sick of these idiot libtard judges spending OUR money for stupid gay causes.
America demands Justice for the Fallen of Benghazi! |
Then when the make the sex change he will say he is a different person and he didn’t kill that girl so he will petition for release. This country is in deep $hit.
I’m all for this if it involves shooting it off.
Just don't go demanding that I pay for your proclivities.
And don't do proselytizing your weird hang ups on the youth and you can do whatever as long as you are not hurting others or prancing around naked all over the place or whatever.
Just don't expect society or expect to FORCE society to treat you like this:
If you look like this:
Given that the states have never delegated to Congress, via the Constitution, the specific power to tax and spend for PC sexual orientation issues, Mass. state taxpayers had better be paying the bill for this operation and not US taxpayers.
And if Mass. majority voters don’t want their tax dollars to be spent on such things, but are too lazy to exercise their voting muscle to prohibit such operations in the future, then they can sleep in the bed that they have made for themselves imo.
I think this could be done very cost effectively by auctioning the surgical rights to interested denizens of the state women’s prison. Surely someone there would be willing to perform the requisite -ectomies.

This isn’t about this convict and his “medically necessary” treatment. This is about normalizing mental illness and perversion and making the taxpayers pay for it.
