Food stamp rolls have been growing rapidly. But what many may not realize is that participation among able-bodied adults without dependents (ABAWDs) has been skyrocketing compared to the total number of participants. Thats just one reason Congress should reform the food stamp program in the farm bill now under consideration. In just four years, the number of able-bodied adults without dependents (ABAWDs) on the food stamp rolls skyrocketed by over 2 million. While overall food stamp use grew by 53 percent between Fiscal Year 2007 and Fiscal Year 2010 (from about 26 million to nearly 40 million), it more than doubled among able-bodied adults without dependents during this timefrom 1.7 million to 3.9 millionan increase of roughly 127 percent. Food stamp spending today is roughly $80 billion, double what it was in Fiscal Year 2008.

Versus "role"? According to websters:
Roll: a list, register, or catalog, especially one containing the names of the persons belonging to a company, class, society, etc.
Role: a part or character played by an actor or actress. proper or customary function: the teacher's role in society.
They aren't lazy. They just can't find a job. And you can't blame an engineer for trying to find a job in Engineering instead of shoving hamburgers at McDonalds.
Guess who the “underemployed” are? All those people the government doesn’t count as unemployed because they work a crappy part time job? Or two? And qualify for food stamps? ABAWDs.
“If people don’t want to work , we cannot let them go hungry.”
What about the people that want to work, but can’t find jobs in the Obamanation? The leftist intent is to get as many Americans enslaved by government and onto welfare and assistance as possible. And their plan is working splendidly. But first they had to destroy the job market. Check.
I used to joke about beer stamps. It ain’t funny anymore. BTT
A lot of these able-bodied, childless adults on food stamps are college students. There was a huge push a few years back to sign up as many college students as possible to expand the program. It’s still not acceptable. Moochers are moochers, whether they’re in college or on welfare.
Yep, that food stan illustration tells the story. I’ve been suggesting that food stamps can only be used for fresh produce, meat, and dairy. Period. People would get healthier, med costs would decrease within a year or so.
And how about all food paid for with stamps has to be grown in the USA ..
Oh, “Yes We Can!”
If they do not work, neither shall they eat.
I agree. we dont have soup kitchens anymore.
close family members taxed to the hilt. no descretionary $left over to helpcould make them do comm svc for FS though
The Ft. Walton Beach City Council is currently debating the licensing and inspection of ‘homeless shelters’ run by the local churches. If they succeed it may put them out of business..............
They’ve been out actively recruiting college students. Duh!
I’ve actual known many early to mid twenties folks that do work but also get food stamps. These same people always had nice new clothes, would go out and party all the time, and ate much better than I do. The EBT card falls right into their entitled mindset. They really believed they deserved the EBT card and that there was nothing wrong with milking the system.
Lack of jobs contributes to the problem but its a symptom. I really think the root cause is the fact that so many of the younger folks that are coming up truly believe they are entitled to free stuff. When you raise people in a culture that constantly tells them they are special and relentlessly protects them from the reality of failure so that they maintain high self esteem, you end up with a huge group of wussies that truly believe they are special and that everyone owes them something because they are special.
Sorry I screwed that one up. I was busy eating a great ham & swiss on a roll when I got my roles reversed. I really should not eat & think at the same time.
Part of the plan.
Good question. One looks at some of these postings and wonders about the low standards that high schools--and maybe even colleges--must have. There's even one poster on this thread who apparently can't even correctly spell his screen name and it doesn't appear that he or she misspelled it on purpose.
Oops, I had seen that name on a previous thread and was continuing to marvel at it. Sorry, it’s not on this thread.
I had food stamps for awhile. Couldn’t find a job. Still don’t have a real job. Found a way to have a roof over my head, bills paid & about $1,000 a month for food & necessities.
Glad I’m off food stamps. It is embarrassing.
Feel sorry for those in a similar predicament. However, to see people buy some of the things they buy with FS infuriates me. Raised 3 little girls by myself when I was younger. Never asked for nothing. We skimped and could not afford the best, but we lived within our means and thanked God everyday for what we had.
blessings,
Now we call it EBT and the NFL.
The liberals were once again very savvy. They put this welfare program under the Ag Dept and got the farm states on board. There’s no stopping SNAP!
What really p!sses me off is not the program itself but the constant barrage of MSM reporting that 1 in 6 children goes to bed hungry every night.
