According to Dr. John Bradshaw, whos studied felines for over 30 years and wrote the tome Cat Sense, cats were never bred for companionship. In fact, they tend to think of humans as big, lazy, overgrown fellow cats, which might explain some of that cool, disinterested behavior towards us.

Bradshaw also tells CNET that cats now face possibly more hostility than at any time during the last two centuries, alleging that breeders who try to domesticate them are doing more damage than good to the natural predators.

I've been trying for years to teach my cat to be a dog with little success.

Bradshaw also discovered that cats who were shamed as kittens live unhappy adult lives.

“Fair enough. I think my cat is just another little person.”
Post of the day.
(At least in the cat-lover category.)

You never met my first cat, Peaches. She could charm the most confirmed cat hater.

We had a male cat who definitely acted like he thought he was one of us.
Just the way he would look at us in our eyes.
I recall getting ready for dinner and he jumps in one of our seats and sits there looking at us like ‘Please pass the...”

The study went off the rails right there.
Still, my cats are brighter than most people in DC.

I am very surprised at his depth of knowledge. And all along I thought he was just another dumb jock/sportcaster!

Ours has been known to do the same. Sit at an empty chair at the table, with his little face just over the edge of the table, watching everything, like he’s part of the action.

I’m very happy to say our cat is not the stereotypical standoffish lazy “cat” type at all. She’s more well behaved than most dogs (or humans) I’ve known. Even knows how to beg for treats by raising a paw.
Earns her keep, too. She’s killed about a dozen rats left on our doorstep.

RE :”

Sit at an empty chair at the table, with his little face just over the edge of the table, watching everything, like hes part of the action.” We had a female cat at the same time who acted nothing like that. This was the male cat doing it and he had his claws and loved to go out and hunt too.
You want to see if you can capture it in photographs for history because back then I found seeing our cat present himself and look like he would actually talk to us as ahuman would, like he was a real part of the family, was unique.
Our female cat and dog couldn't do it.
