The chief executive of TransCanada said Wednesday if the Obama administration doesnt approve the controversial Keystone XL pipeline his company will look to the more dangerous alternative of building build rail terminals in Alberta and Oklahoma.
President Barack Obama is expected to decide early this year on Keystone XL, which is under review at the State Department. The long-delayed pipeline would carry oil from Canada to the Gulf Coast.
TransCanada CEO Russ Girling said pipelines are by far a safer alternative to oil trains but said if customers want him to build rail terminals he will. He said hes in discussions with oil and rail companies.
Concerns have been raised about the increasing use of rail to transport oil throughout North America. A number of recent derailments have worried both officials and residents close to rail lines. In July, 47 people were killed in Lac-Megantic, Quebec, when a train with 72 oil tankers derailed and exploded in the small community. On Dec. 30, an oil train derailed and exploded in North Dakota, causing the evacuation of a nearby town but no injuries. Earlier this month, a train carrying oil and gas exploded in New Brunswick, also causing evacuations.
Girling said theyll consider building a rail terminal in Hardisty, Alberta where the pipeline would have started. He said he will also consider building an import terminal in Cushing, Oklahoma, site of the biggest U.S. oil storage hub. The southern leg of Keystone XL from Cushing to refineries in the Gulf Coast is set to come online next week.

From an oil company perspective, I think the only numbers that really matter is:
The pipeline transportation of crude oil is inherently more cost effective than its movement by rail. Shipping the bitumen to the Gulf Coast by pipeline, the State Department estimates, costs about $10 per barrel, while shipping by rail costs about $30 per barrel.
And that is from a pro-rail, anti-pipeline article.
Remember, this is 2014, not 1994 and everything is relative. Canada has enjoyed a capitalist conservative government led by a conservative economist since 2008. The US has suffered under an oppressive socialist regime led by a marxist community organizer since 2008. Do you understand the changes that have taken place in our countries in that time? Do the math, and some research before you get back to me.
My prediction: Obama will save the world by approving Keystone.>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Obama dances to the tune of the King of Saud. He will never approve Keystone.
Rememeber how Obama bowed and kissed the ring of The Saudi King? Thats it, pure and simple.
Obama is a liberal fascist, and he doesn’t give a rat’s ass about the US economy or energy independence, which is why the Energy Bill from the US House of Congress has been tabled by Harry Reid in the Senate, tabled into perpetuity and non existence.
Obama the Fascist.

(see equalization of opportunity act)
I don’t need too.
The conservatives, federally, have governed more from the centre than the right.
There are still provincial income taxes unlike states like Texas.
It depends on the province more than the federal government with respect to determining whether the people or govervnment policies are right or left on things in Canada. For example, the greater Toronto area is still very liberal, Quebec is socialist.
Finally we still have a government run health care insurance system unlike the USA.
Buffet is much lower on Prince Obama’s pecking order than the King of Saud. Do the math.
As for health care, I don't know if you have been reading the papers but the US is careening towards Stalinist health care. If Obama gets his way they will be begging for anything close to Canadian health care.
Yes, he has been the best in a long time. I was less than impressed with the bailout of GM and the major amount of money they through into infrastructure projects. But, we should be deficit free at the federal level in a year or so and taxes have remained reasonable including a lowering of the goods and services tax. I thoroughly worry our PM is about to be kicked out of office if the senate scandal shows he violated the law. The RCMP is doing a very serious investigation on this issue.
Yes, I have been carefully following the insanity in the US wrt to the health care. I am very worried for many of you in the US as to how this tremendous change is taking place. The huge costs to people is crazy. It should never have been passed in the first place without careful consideration of all of the issues.
Have a great day.
Or Thackney ? propose to the environmentalist that we could ship huge amounts of petroleum by rivers on huge barges at a more environmental risk vs pipeline.... that outta wake them up.
It has been reported that Prince Alwaleed bin Talal of Saudi Arabia was approached by Bill Ayers to assist in raising funds for Obama’s Harvard education. It is on record that the Prince was responsible for a a $25.0 million donation to Harvard. The Saudi’s are terrified at the thought of North American oil security and what that would do to their cash flow. Two +Two = Four
You aree a knowledgeable freeper...seriously you get the award for ugly American of the week. One stat for you... National debt per capita U.S.A. = $58,000.00...Canada = $18,000.00.
