With Fallujah back under the control of Sunni insurgents, the nightmare of Iraq in 2004 is alive again. Today, TMZ published eight horrifying images, allegedly taken nearly a decade ago in Fallujah, which appear to show U.S. Marines posing next to dead bodies, soaking them in gasoline, and lighting them on fire. The gossip site claims to have published just a few of the 41 photos it obtained "Many are just too gruesome" and the military has opened an investigation.
"The actions depicted in these photos are not what we expect from our service members, nor do they represent the honorable and professional service of the more than 2.5 million Americans who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan," said Commander Bill Speaks, a spokesperson for the Pentagon, in a statement. "The Marine Corps is currently investigating the veracity of these photos, circumstances involved, and if possible, the identities of the service members involved. The findings from this investigation will determine whether we are able to move forward with any investigation into possible wrongdoing."
There is no statute of limitations on violations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
The upsetting pictures are not the first of their kind and track with known abuses in the region by U.S. forces at the time. According to a 2005 report from Human Rights Watch, "The torture of detainees reportedly was so widespread and accepted that it became a means of stress relief for soldiers."
The recent fall of Fallujah has brought that time to the surface again for some troops. "It's just like, wow, thanks for dragging up all these memories I tried to forget that were controlling my life," one soldier told the New York Times recently, calling photos of the recent developments "nauseating." "For a while I lived out of a bottle trying to shut the memories off," he said.
Lighten up.
Thank you for admitting that I’m right.
Thanks also for your “support”. Perhaps you should learn a little more about Western Civilization.
No need to thank me; you don't have my support.
Still as abrasive and as disagreeable as you were the day you signed up, I see. Well, there's always hope that your personality will undergo an improvement. Good luck with that.
I look at the term “human” as more of a condition or maybe a status. Are the jihadists human? They are beings, homosapiens, men (well, sort of). But how much humanity is there in them? I would say, not much.
What kind of people can claim to be human and yet behead others with dull knives? How about those who stone a helpless woman to death for enjoying the company of a man to whom she is not related? Or killing thousands of innocent people in a skyscraper just to make some kind of point?
Human? It’s a stretch.
I see. So that business in your tagline about supporting Christian white males is not entirely accurate.
>> Still as abrasive and as disagreeable
I calls 'em as I sees 'em. Always have, always will, in person or electronically.
Not when they behave like jerks, no.
Take that as constructive criticism.
Mankind was created in the image and likeness of God. Through sin, human nature is fallen, diseased, and corrupted. Read the Book of Genesis ... it's very informative on the matter. Purely by the Grace of God, some folks rise above that corruptedness, some can become extraordinarily saintly. The Image of God shines quite brightly in them. Others reject God's Grace, reject being the Image of God, and truly wallow in their sins. There seems to be no depth of depravity unplumbed by such folk ... and yet it seems daily they come up with new ways of being hideous.
Human? Precisely. Human, fallen away from God and given over to evil. You think you have no tendencies in that direction yourself? Think again. We all do. Repent! Turn yourself over to Christ. He is the way, and the truth, and the life ... and the truth, HIS truth will make you free.
Mohammedanism represents a radical turning away from Christ, a radical rejection of His truth and life. It sets up a falsehood in His place. Socialism, incicentally, does likewise. The last 100 years illustrate the abject horror of which men are capable, when they turn to mohammedanism or socialism instead of turning to The Lord.
That's probably more answer than you wanted. I hope it's helpful.
LOL!
Because we didn’t give them a proper “Muslim burial”, so it is a brutal violation of human rights!
Of course, when Obama didn’t give Bin Laden a proper “Muslim burial”, it was nothing to see here, move along.
*** which appear to show U.S. Marines posing next to dead bodies, soaking them in gasoline, and lighting them on fire.**
So? You prefer them to collect flies? Besides, we used to burn trash!
You’re right.
Dad was in WW2, in Letty Gulf, he said the flamethrowers would be aimed in bunkers to clear out the Japs, and he said the Marines (he was Army), would gather bodies by the dozens and the “Zippo” shermans would roll in and incinerate them all.
It was what had to be done to keep disease away.
He told me until the day he died, that was why he couldn’t stand the smell of pork on a grill. He said it was identical to the smell of burning bodies.
And that is why I kind of wish they would start something they couldn't & wouldn't finish, but we could and would.
And that comment is ignorant. Unless the enemy is dehumanized, it is not possible to fight him effectively; it leads to crippling ROE and PC crap on the front lines, and second guessing during action by troops; and then after action by politicians and bleeding hearts. It just gets our guys killed by those without such fastidious compunctions.
Yes really. Muslims are in a league all to themselves because their retardate culture nurtures a combination of religious totalitarianism and desert tribe backstab mentality. Unlike any other group we have encountered extermination is an attractive option for a lot of the Arab Muslim population. The fewer Arabs the better the world will be.
I direct your attention to posts number 74 and 75, and suggest to you that although I am obnoxious, irritating, and abrasive, I am also RIGHT.
There's a difference between their evil influence, and recognizing that the enemy ... even the nasty japs, krauts, gooks, fuzzies, whatever ... are human and should be treated humanely when possible. WE DONT'T TORTURE PRISONERS OF WAR. In many cases, our enemies do, but we don't. It's part of what makes us the good guys.
Wow ... I didn’t expect to find advocates for genocide on this forum.
Their souls were already burning in Hell anyway so why shouldn’t their bodies be burning too.
