The elderly man accused of shooting a movie theater patron in Florida after an argument over text messaging told police that he fired because he "was in fear of being attacked."
Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco said at a news conference today that the victim, Chad Oulson, 43, was texting his young daughter's babysitter when an argument erupted with Reeves over texting during previews before the movie "Lone Survivor."

You made that up
and then escalating it to throwing things
You made that up too
Who knows how much farther it wouldve gone.
Your fantasy is beside the point
BOTH were wrong.
You're misleading and wrong, but no death penalty for you.
"Reeves claims he feared for his safety after being hit by an unknown object".
-- but no "unknown object" was found.".
Would you describe a bag of popcorn as an "unknown object"???
Popcorn is a pretty well known object in a movie theatre especially when you are only a few feet away from it.
It's pretty clear from his statement that that bag of popcorn thrown or not was not a factor in the shooting -- the unknown object that didn't exist was.
Did you bother to read the accounts yesterday?
The victim got on his case for talking to management. Others on this thread think he was wrong to “tattle” as well.
It DID escalate to throwing things (popcorn).
No telling how far it was going to go but it certainly wasn’t going to “end” with the popcorn toss.
It is fantasy to allege that the popcorn flew out of his hands BECAUSE he got shot.
And the shooting victim WAS dumbass. Not just for texting in a theater but for throwing popcorn and getting his pants in a wad for being called a jerk.
BOTH were wrong. You are too. Stop trolling.
Troll.
Is this really what we've devolved to as a society? No one can say anything to someone breaking the rules and should just move away if it bothers us like we are sheep? Otherwise we should expect to be attacked if we have the temerity to actually say something to someone doing something wrong?
My point here is this was a bad shoot no matter what.
I disagree, there are not enough facts to say either way.
He didnt know for sure if he was going to hit his target or the person in front, or next to the man.
That's easy to say but in fact he did his target. If nothing else his judgement was sound there
.
Thank goodness the gun jammed... or we could be hearing about more coffins and grieving families over texting.
This is simply an emotional appeal. Witnesses don't suggest he even tried to shoot again or even clear the jam.
Yeah, we wish. The days are gone when the theater was a place where one respected another’s quiet enjoyment. We stopped going over ten years ago because of the influx of slobs munchin like hogs throughout, talking, herd of likewise unruly kids, etc. Move? Yes, he could have, but that gets old when the slobs should have the proper etiquette to begin with.
You are suggesting I'm proposing an alternative to what actually happend, when we don't know what actually happend. This entire hanging jury is basing their opinion on speculation and the facts presented to them by a very biased media.
I lot of people here on FR were ready to hang Zimmerman too. How about we get all the facts before we leap to a conclusion?
“OH NO! He supposedly glared at someone breaking the rules of the theatre. That obviously PROVES he is a MADMAN!”
Actually it shows a trend of reoccurring abnormal agressive behavior. Will be useful to the prosecution.
Absolutely either of the couples could have moved. Either one could have prevented this murder.
However many people don’t expect someone to start shooting in a minor tiff.
From what we are reading the feature hadn’t started, they were still watching previews, but I admit many of those can be gosh darn loud too.
luddite bootlicker
Troll.
Your presumptions and invented fantasies are not corroborated by eyewitness testimony. No one heard him admonish his murderer for “tattling”, that’s a presumption. No one saw him throw the popcorn, that is also your presumption. You have a long way to go, pissant, before telling anyone who can and can’t post.
IMO a highly trained cop should have been able to determine it was popcorn. It may also have been his wifes hand if she tried to stop him.
Really? Wow.
well that speculation matches public statements from cops who have arrested the guy and charged him with murder.
It might be time to start expecting it. Look at the people defending the shooter. It seems that ANYTHING can be considered life-threatening and deserving of deadly force.
Are you kidding me right now? The victim is at fault because he broke the texting rule, and therefore the shooter was justified? A young father is dead. Show some respect.
Imagination is your strong suit, but it doesn’t make a very compelling argument in this case. Unless you happened to be in the theater and are offering testimony instead of speculation.
