I started shooting at age five. By the time I turned 12, my parents gave me an NRA Life Membership. Ive studied, written and taught about firearms law and the Bill of Rights since the 1960s, helping to enact concealed-carry laws in states across the country and authoring numerous other pieces of pro-firearms legislation. Im a competitive shooter whos hunted on five continents, and I founded a 150-acre shooting park in my home state of Illinois. All told, Ive written more than 1,700 articles for firearms publications over the last four decades, as well as hosting and producing several firearms television programs.
Yet today I am labeled a gun control collaborator, a Bloomberg supporter and a modern-day Benedict Arnoldnot to mention a decrepit, mentally defunct self-important old fart. And on Nov. 6, 2013, my 37-year career as a firearms journalist came to an abrupt end.

Wah!!!!
Don’t go away mad, Dickie. Just go away.
Well, OK. If he prefers Quisling, then Quisling it is.
DOH! All that firearm history and this asshat still manages to shoot himself in the foot. Trigger discipline dicky boy. Trigger discipline.
Don’t worry. There’s always a market for guys like you, ask Gary Wills, Ariana Huffington and David Brock. You will never have any real friends, just useful allies. You get to play the part of “tool”.
Wow, this guy isn’t giving up without a.......whimper LOL.
If Dick thinks that the kind of gun legislation that was passed in NY, CT, CO & CA after the Newtown shootings is worthy of discussion, he’s on the wrong side.
Mr. Metcalf? Please let me introduce you to Jim Zumbo.
*snort*
Dick Metcalf...
Something about that name...
Dick.
Metcalf.
What am I missing...
[walks away shaking head...]
Dick Metcalf made the fundamental mistake of playing directly into the hands of those he claims to oppose. He adopted their view of history, their tone, their language and their tactics. In a free society, free men may choose those with whom they associate. Those who love liberty and recognize the indispensable role of the Second Amendment in its preservation have made their choicea choice they have the right to make. Dick Metcalf remains free to convince them, through his actions, not his words, that he is once again worthy of their company.
Oh, Dick. That is your name....Dick.
Excellent!
Just goes to show that a person can lead a good life, and one bad decision can bring everything down around him.
His decision, of course, wasn’t made in the heat of the moment. He obviously thought people would overlook his assult on the 2nd Amendment. What a dangerous idiot. Makes a person wonder if his intent all along was to gain a bit of power and then see if he could tamper with the 2nd.
And he can’t even blame it on old age, or some woman. Goldwater comes to mind as one who might be excused for saying stupid things near the end of his life.
I like it..!
With such a distinguished history of gun ownership and use it oddly seems that the man has no friends who own and use guns and understand the Constitution. Were it otherwise he would have known that his thoughts were wholly inappropriate in a discussion of Constitutional Rights with people who know and believe in the Constitution.
One of the few bloggers I enjoy reading.
If he knew anything about what is really going on in the world, he wouldn’t be writing in Politico.
I didn’t even notice that till you mentioned it. Probably politico was the only place that would accept it...well could have been huff post.
