SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Intel Corp (INTC), hit by slumping personal computer sales, has put off opening a major chip factory that President Barack Obama once held up as an example of U.S. manufacturing potential.
The "Fab 42" facility built in Chandler, Arizona, originally slated as a $5 billion project that in late 2013 would start producing Intel's most advanced chips, will remain closed for the foreseeable future while other factories at the same site are upgraded, said Intel spokesman Chuck Mulloy.
Intel's decision not open the chip plant was first reported by the Arizona Republic on Tuesday.

Better watch out Intel, you made the boy king look bad, so expect and audit and NSA wire taps of your executive and board members. Better develop a Muslim outreach real quick.

That’s okay. I’m sure they can retrofit the plant to produce solar panels and plug-in electric cars.
If I was an optimistic person I would guess that some advancement has been made that would render the proposed chips obsolete. If I was a pessimist, well, pessimism always has plenty of options....
It has happened to others.
I’ve been working for Intel for almost 25 years.
Internal guidelines say I can make comments about obsolete product, items which are already public knowledge but that’s about it.
Trust me its nothing sinister, just a business decision.
Solyndra or Intel—— ‘what difference does it make’? (a la Hellaryism). None when it comes to Big Zero reducing them into his own likeness.
