Ann Coulter, David Limbaugh, Erick Erickson and Michelle Malkin have a new publisher in Washington today, the expanding Christian conservative media empire of Salem Communications Corp., recently dubbed "the new power in conservative media."
Salem on Monday completed the purchase of Eagle Publishing, which operates Regnery, the nation's leading conservative book publisher; Human Events, one of the oldest conservative news providers; and the popular website RedState, headed by Erickson. Two other properties, Eagle Financial Publications and Eagle Wellness, were included. No price was provided to Secrets.
The move gives Salem, already a huge force in conservative radio and Christian broadcasting and publishing, an immediate and powerful presence in the nation's capital, where Eagle and Regnery have long ruled the right's publishing roost. Among Regnery's best-selling authors are Limbaugh, Ed Klein, Malkin, Dinesh DSouza, Mark Levin, Laura Ingraham and Newt Gingrich.
It also gives some financial stability to Eagle's properties, including Human Events, which recently ended its print edition.
Salem, based in Camarillo, Calif., near the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Library in Simi Valley, owns 102 radio stations, including WRC in Washington. They also have a network that distributes talk, news and music programming to approximately 2,000 affiliates.
Edward G. Atsinger III, president and chief executive officer of Salem, said in a statement: Eagle is one of the most influential companies in the conservative media space. Its addition to Salem brings together a unique portfolio of conservative media properties and fits with our strategy of integrating traditional media and new media assets all serving the same target audience. The opportunity we like most about this acquisition is that each of Eagles businesses matches up so well with Salems extensive media platform. With 102 radio stations and a dozen major national websites all targeting the conservative community, this provides a perfect marketing platform to promote Eagles products to a wider audience.
Eagle President Jeff Carneal said when the company decided to sell, it looked for a conservative partner. "Of the several interested suitors, Salem provided the best opportunity for our employees, customers, and brands. Salems unique assets and strong management will ensure a bright future for the Eagle companies and take the combined company to a new level of success and influence," he said.

Always thought of Redstate as more of a Republican (RINO) site rather than a Conservative site but maybe I was wrong...
Better that they were bought out by a Christian Conservative Company though...before they went totally left Republican!
In truth though, there were many decent contributors to this site, just the Moderators that controlled the Conservative comments. Probably just too tied to actual candidates.
I seem to recall Eagle being Mormon owned, and Human Events and Regnery did not go in that direction.
Maybe they will fix RedState. It used to be a good place to go to, years ago. Nowadays, not so much. They would first need to drop Erickson...
RINO Corp
All I know is that Salem Radio hosts are always more RINO-ish than I liked
Salem, eh? Interesting.
The move gives Salem, already a huge force in conservative radio and Christian broadcasting and publishing, an immediate and powerful presence in the nation's capital, where Eagle and Regnery have long ruled the right's publishing roost. More and more power in fewer and fewer hands.
In this case hands that haven’t exactly proven themselves willing to fight the fights that must be fought.
Salem bought Eagle so not sure how that all works out but more Conservative and more Christian I’m sure...
It's better that these sites remain in individual hands. What if Salem becomes targeted by the regime?
You are so right! I was banned from there by Moe for being too Conservative (anti RINO)! Sure hope that they have lightened up a bit there at least.
Liberal conspiracy theorists heads must be spinning upon hearing this news! They already think conservatives want a theocracy; this will scare them even more!
Not really sure that Erick is the problem (may be but not by my earlier readings) but his Moderators are much less Conservative and tend to slap down those kind of thoughts, ie, RINO type thoughts, even to the point of banning them.
Not sure when you got banned, but there were at least two big purges that I was aware of, and all were orchestrated by Erickson. Were mainly used to eliminate diary writers and commentators that didn’t follow the party line. Lost a lot of good people in the last one.
Also, the redo of the format was the last straw for me. Losing the diary format, and going to discus for comments were both insanely stupid, in terms of keeping up the level of commentary. Every site I have been on that switched to discus soon sucked. And the main reason I went there was to read the diaries. Lots of good writers back then. Not so much anymore...
After a bit of thought...
I think that this is just another purchase of Republican liabilities and they are doing their best as control of the media - even the so called sympathetic media here...
Are we entering into a new world where those in control have the money and power to purchase those that might oppose?
Time will tell, but it is looking suspicious...
You know, I am not sure when but it has been about 3 years or so since Moe banned be along with my favorite conservative contributor (actually because of him - I stood up for him). I know that I was so mad that I wanted nothing else to do with them at the time...urgh! Yes I was mad at the time. The worst part is that I attempted to sign on again and was accepted but could not post.... Guess that they decided that I’m too Conservative...heh, probably due to MOE!
Anyway, I no longer wish to post there as they are way to Republican and way too NOT Conservative but they did prove their point at the time. It did point out the difference to me about Republicans and Conservatives so it was not lost on me - a good thing!
Red State was one of the biggest supporters of the DeMint/Conservative Fund candidates. They have enacted a lot of real conservative change.
How does Erickson get paid for his website?
Think I’ll start one tomorrow.
Yes, well I guess it depended upon who controlled the poster. Most of the Moderators were conservative but some in control were simply Republicans and possessed too much power to control the narrative. The result is that there was a bit of confusion there during a few years and it has since seemed to resolve itself...
