The Weather Channel asked its viewers Saturday to urge Congress to intervene in its business dispute with DirecTV, arguing that it can harm public safety if the satellite system pulls the network off the air for nearly 20 million viewers.
The network's contract with DirecTV expires at the end of Monday. If an agreement on how much DirecTV pays The Weather Channel is not reached by then, TWC will likely stop airing on the system.
The Weather Channel is asking for a "negligible" increase in what DirecTV pays to air the channel, spokeswoman Shirley Powell said. While hoping for an agreement, "right now it's not looking so good."
DirecTV notes that there are many other ways its customers can get weather forecasts.

Wow.
I never really watch the weather channel. Sounds as exiting as "the bowling channel" or "the drying paint" channel. So, there wasn't a lot of respect there to lose, but what little there was is now lost.
This isn't Weather channel but this hilarious video shows the absurdity to which these TV weather people will stoop to in order to make it seem like the world is coming to an end. And they will tell you it's all due to "global warming" and George Bush!
Huh? The Weathe Channel sees itself as a public utility, or it now believes it has the power of blackmail.
They are freaking nuts.
We can all get along just fine without the Weather Channel.
They are simply not as competitive nor correct as many other sources.
My local radar, common sense, and the Saturday Summary from Joe Bastardi serve me more than adequately.
But...but....WHAT am I going to do w/o my TorCon hysterics....know what the name is of the next winter storm....or my morning with Wake Up With Al “I pooped my pants” Roker?
?
?
?
BWWWWAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I hope they get the boot.
I’ll stick with Joe Bastardi.
The WC rarely shows the weather prediction, but has all sorts of other time fillers filling their time..
Bookmarked and bump.
This from the clowns who started “naming” cold fronts.
Wx Channel is pretty much of a waste... except for Iceberg Hunters. I liked that show but I think its canceled.
If the increase is negligible, why doesn't the Weather Channel absorb the cost? As was demonstrated in "The Princess Bride";
Vizzini: ... INCONCEIVABLE.
Inigo Montoya: You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
I once caught one of their ‘pansies in the field’ holding his hood of his Patagonia in a “kiba dachi” stance while people were casually walking by. The cam quickly panned back in. LOL! Idiots.
Because we’re all gonna die if every winter cold front doesn’t get a memorable capitalized name like Winter Storm Fry’Shikniqua to help us remember to put on a coat!
So the Weather Channel feels that the government should coerce Direct TV to buy their service? I guess they feel that people should be mandated to buy things like health insurance? Perhaps the next move is to create a 2,000 page bill that no one in Congress will read before passing and then have John Roberts declare it a tax. Another attempt to corrupt free enterprise.
The WC meteorologists are gorebal warming nitwits.
Please... Please.... Get rid of the worthless, Al Roker!
I live in an area where there’s a lot of extreme weather. I have DirecTv. Whenever we have extreme weather we lose the satellite signal. Therefore, I don’t depend on TWC at all. Ever. Besides, DTV now carries WeatherNation, so who needs Comcast/NBC/MSNBC/The Weather Channel?
And they're right!
waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
Very cool, thanks for the info.
