Donald Trump to New York GOP: I'll Run for Governor if We Skip Primary

Donald Trump is ready to run for governor of New York if the state's Republicans will unify behind him, but state GOP Chairman Ed Cox says Trump should officially declare his candidacy if he's serious about seeking the state's top spot.

Trump told the New York Daily News, after a two-hour meeting with 50 Republicans in his office on Friday, that he is seeking full support of the party and wants no primary elections.

"You can’t have primaries," said Trump. "You can’t have all the wasted time and effort in doing that. You have to pick somebody and go to win. If that couldn’t happen, I wouldn’t do it."

Cox, though, said Trump should go through the process of running, like any other candidate.

"If Donald Trump is serious about running for governor, he should declare his candidacy, run and go through the process," Cox is already supporting Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino's potential campaign, the Daily News reports.

Astorino has not yet officially decided to run, but his spokeswoman, Jessica Proud, said he would not step aside and allow Trump to run unopposed.

"We think it's great he's thinking of running," Proud said. "They both care deeply about the state and are both very concerned watching Gov. [Andrew] Cuomo manage its decline."

Paladino would have been an excellent governor. Too bad he’s not running again.

Really, so Trump is a cheater and a known LIAR to his wife and family? Not true! Arnold’s fame was brought about by movie goers - the no nothings of the world who enjoyed being entertained by ‘acting’ and not doing. And they do what liberals do - LIE! Thus, your analogy is void. Try harder, trash Trump is sport for some as they entertain themselves. Each one trying to outdo the other.

Trump always finds a way to suggest that he would (obviously) be the best choice for high political office, but the screwed up system is preventing America from having the very best (him).

The problem, of course, is that Trump knows that very few people think he would be an effective leader and not many would ever vote for him. So, these kinds of stunts (he also did this in 2012) allow him to toot his own horn without ever allowing the voters to express their opinion of him.

Trump is like a sick, needy puppy.

Running unopposed is not the same thing as forcing others not to run.

You mean like this?..that the President believed he should withdraw his 2010 gubernatorial candidacy, stepping aside for "popular Attorney General Andrew Cuomo.

Now who is Trump forcing not to run? Back up your words for once. Your track record stinks when it comes to that.

Do you really think that is the way things SHOULD be done?

I really think you should back up your words and stop with trashing anyone but liberals whom you side with much too much.

Just another reason I am glad I am not a Republican.

No one would argue with you about that!

Sleaze is something you know about. You see it even in those who believe and want to enforce the Constitution. You live with it and it resides in your head - rent Pelosi free.

I agree. Perhaps he’ll fill some office for Trump - Carl deserves it. He ran with his own money IIRC. All for NY.

Your mantra when exposed is over done. Accusing a candidate and a future candidate of what liberals do and with no facts to back up your accusations - and you speak about topic? You beat to your own topic...accuse a candidate opposing a liberal but give a pass to anyone liberal.

I am just commenting on the article as presented. It said he would run but wanted NO PRIMARY. That is what the article says, that is what I am commenting on.

Well, heck, why don’t we just skip the primary and the mayoral election, too? You can just have the job. Simple and cheaper. Plus, one less communist mayor in America.

Ooops. He wants to be governor, not mayor, but I think he should be mayor, too.

I was just wishful thinking instead of reading.

Hey, conservaKate - tell us what is so good about Cuomo. Since you are so vain, it should be easy as it’s about all about hair for you.

So let me get this straight... if someone doesn’t like the idea of Trump being handed the nomination ... ipso facto ... that person is ‘for’ Cuomo? Hmmm.

And so it would also follow ... if someone makes a comment about Trump’s hair ... as a joke ... the commenter is vain?

Huh. Odd that.
