I don't know the specifics concerning Commonwealth citizens obtaining citizenship more easily in Canada, but I know that in 1977, the Canadian immigration laws were revamped in a big way. No longer was a Canadian citizen automatically a British citizen. I can only surmise that this change in Canadian law reflected on the citizenship status of ALL Commonwealth citizens. In other words, citizens of Commonwealth countries were not automatically deemed to be British subjects and would need to meet higher standards for immigration to, and citizenship in Canada. That was 37 years ago!

If your issue with Indian workers is more recent than 37 years ago, it is likely NOT a question of special status for Commonwealth citizens. Rather, the fact that India is turning out tens of thousands of qualified IT professionals who speak ENGLISH from grade 1. Canada, like many countries, has a shortage of IT people (some stats show 300K jobs are going unfilled in IT in Canada right now). Kanata (Ottawa) is a high-tech centre because of the government; Calgary, because of the energy sector (3D seismic, communications, etc.); Toronto because of its size and Vancouver because it is so close to 'Silicon Valley'.

You seem to be missing the point that it is the US government's decision on who THEY allow into the US, especially regarding work visas. I can apply for a job, or Tom, or Abdul, or Indrajit can apply. It is up to the US government to approve them or not. If a company wants a certain foreigner working for them, they can request the person to be 'fast-tracked' through the government process. I have seen that happen with Canadian executives running US subsidiaries. (The same thing happens with US execs running Cdn subsidiaries.) Instead of being upset that Canada filled positions with foreigners because of a shortage of workers, your focus should be on why your employers were not hiring US workers, or were they also facing a shortage, like Canada is/was, so hired English-speaking professionals, already somewhat culturally acclimatized in Canada?

Frankly, can you blame someone who grew up in a country where 75F was considered cold (India), to want to leave a country where 45F in January means wearing shorts and riding a bicycle (Canada)? OF COURSE they want to get to a warmer locale, like Californication! I used to work with an accountant originally from India, who found Calgary (pop. 1.1 million) too small and too cold. She preferred living in a condo in Tranna (GTA pop. 5.6 million), which she still considered to be somewhat small.

He would have to spend about a billion dollars unwisely to end up in that situation, because he’s worth about $150 million and he’ll get upwards of $5 million a year, for life.

It wouldn't be the first time an entertainer or athlete lost a fortune, especially after their careers tanked. History is filled with them.......

Shyster managers, bad investments, drugs and excessive lifestyles have ruined many.....they didn't have to personally spend it.

“Have we now declared war on Canada? Just wondering. ;)”

No, not that I can see, but we don’t have to provide “sanctuary” for people like Justin Bieber either!
