U.S. employers hired the fewest workers in almost three years in December, but the setback was likely to be temporary amid signs that cold weather conditions might have had an impact.
Nonfarm payrolls rose only 74,000 last month, the smallest increase since January 2011, and the unemployment rate fell 0.3 percentage point to 6.7 percent, the Labor Department said on Friday. The unemployment rate was the lowest since October 2008 and in part reflected people leaving the labor force.
The step back in hiring is at odds with other employment indicators that have painted an upbeat picture of the jobs market. The data showed that 38,000 more jobs were added in November than previously reported.

CNN:
2013 ends with weakest job growth in years
http://money.cnn.com/2014/01/10/news/economy/december-jobs-report/index.html?hpt=hp_t1
Job growth slumped sharply in December, falling far short of expectations. The economy added only 74,000 jobs in December, according to the Department of Labor.
This was the weakest month for job growth since January 2011 and came as a huge surprise to economists, who were expecting an addition of 193,000 jobs.
For all of 2013, the economy added 2.2 million jobs — on par with 2012’s gains
Where’s the “U” word?
U.S. employers hired the fewest workers in almost three years in December, but the setback was likely to be temporary amid signs that cold weather conditions might have had an impact.
That’s BS on the weather. The weather wasn’t a problem prior to Christmas which is when the majority of the “hiring” would have occured.
6.7% is a total fabrication.
America’s unemployment situation is NOT improving.
Fiddling with the way the percentage number is calculated is insulting and a waste of everything government statistics are supposed to represent.
America needs jobs.
Bring back jobs to America.
Stop trying to hoodwink us. Bring back JOBS.
The Media and the Marxist will run with the 6.7% number...and the Christie scandal. Sweep bad news under the carpet.
Temporary? Because of the weather? Uh, just a quick note to you socialist-enabling POS media propagandist scum... There’s a three month lag in data for these labor statistics. So in the tank for the jug-eared moron they aren’t even concerned about being called on their lies.
A report from the Census Bureau showed a total of 108,592,000 people were on some sort of means-tested government benefits program in the fourth quarter of 2011, yet only 101,716,000 people were employed full-time for the entire year.
In 35 states welfare pays better than an actual job. This is what we call an “incentive”—and the U.S. is incentivizing people to not work. Why would a person actually get a job if they could be paid more to stay home? In Pennsylvania, a single women with children working a job that pays $29,000 a year actually receives $57,345 in total income when benefits are factored in. Conversely, if the woman were to work a job that paid $69,000 a year, her net pay after taxes is only $57,045.
Death by a thousand goverment obstacles, in starting and running a business.

It’s Official: The US Created Less Jobs In 2013 Than 2012
The Fed spent over $1 trillion in 2013 (to push the stock market to all time highs) and all we got was... less jobs created than in 2012?
This is clearly.................insane!

You are absolutely right — they do not count the people who just gave up looking for a job, because after prolonged searching they couldn’t find one.
I think the real unemployment number is more like 15%, if you would count those people also.
