Legislation to resurrect long-term jobless legislation stalled in the Senate on Thursday, triggering recriminations from both sides of the political aisle despite earlier expressions of optimism that benefits might soon be restored for more than 1 million victims of the recession.
Gridlock asserted itself after majority Democrats offered to pay for a 10-month extension of a scaled-back program of benefitsthen refused to permit Republicans even to seek any changes.
Instead, Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., accused Republicans of continually denigrating our economy, our president and frankly, I believe, our country.

“Don’t get in the way of our dictatorship.”
This is very discouraging.
And after Obama got on TV and praised the Senate for that other vote on this.
He even said something at it like ‘Hope is contagious’
This stuff used to work for him!
Just make it illegal to be unemployed.
Hello...
Where are the “Shovel Ready Jobs?” Mr. pResident
Answer China!
What Obama was saying is that he is JUST like us the people,( even though we don’t have AF1, the secret service and lifetime military hospital medical care) , and he just wants congress (those no good Republicans) to stop playing games and join HIM in working hard to make the American’s peoples lives better by passing what he says they should.
Its very simple.
Stalled is good. More stall!
Offer a longer extension. Add some spending reductions such as cutting corporate and farm subsidies, add some job creation measures such as cutting the corporate tax, drilling on Federal land (for a fee — revenue!), and the Keystone pipeline, cut the payroll tax, and make the Dems vote against the bigger bill. Then run around attacking them for voting against their own unemployment proposal, as well as tax cuts and job creation. Tie back to Obamacare. Keep talking it up all year.
No he means the late Bob Hope’s brother “No Hope”
Like 0bamacare isn’t sucking the life out of our economy, jobs, & what little many people have left. Keep bleedin’ us, Harry, & then tell us how it’s our own fault. :cussword:
more misdirection. The problem isn’t extending unemployment benefits, the problem is unemployment. but the perpetual campaigner is selling snake oil.
Yes, the unemployed are victims of Democrat policies, not the recession. Everything they do exacerbates the problems in our economy, and I think they know it. As Rush says, the Democrats need a permanent underclass. More votes for them.
Oh yeah. They know it. Dovetails perfectly with their “income inequality” & “living wage” BS. They know what it will do to inflation, too, even if 0Care & unemployment didn’t exist. Works for them! Sometimes at our cynical worst, people will say “worse is better”. Democrats really mean it.
Extend 10months? Why 10 months? Oh, that’s right, the election is in a little less than 10 months. The Democrats don’t care what happens after the sheeple vote...
which would bring it up again just before the elections. Brilliant.
