Christie and the IRS - Contrast the Governor's contrition with Obama's lack thereof
Wall Street Journal ^ | Jan. 9, 2014

Posted on 01/09/2014 7:29:42 PM PST by E. Pluribus Unum

Now that we have your attention, allow us to explain. Governor Chris Christie apologized to New Jersey on Thursday for aides who closed traffic lanes in order to punish a Democratic mayor, and he fired a deputy chief of staff. We mention the IRS because Mr. Christie's contrition contrasts so sharply with President Obama's handling of the tax agency's abuse of political opponents and his reluctance to fire anyone other than a military general for anything.

I find the comparison to be irrelevant. Christie’s running for office. He can’t deny the political motivation because it’s right there in the email. So he has no choice. His ignorance of the entire closure is suspect.

Christie has shown me that he lacks character and integrity regardless of the fact that he knows how to work a crowd. Some people would call this talent, “blow hard”.

his contrition?

He mocked reporters who brought it up. This happened months ago.

Obama has the entire news media covering up the IRS scandal

if a Republican were president the news media would have drummed him from office just with the IRS scandal. The news wouldn’t be george zimmerman, trayvon, adam lanza but IRS scandal 24/7 if it were a Republican president

I believe history will show Obama was instrumental in and working with the agency in the fraud by the IRS against conservative groups trying to get their message out. It was a total corruption of the 2012 elections. INDICTMENTS!

Ditto. I think it's absurd to believe that his closest aides did this on their own. They are his tools. Maybe the result is small potatoes compared to manipulating the IRS, but I find it quite shocking, maybe just because it was so petty and purely vindictive. President? I think he should be thrown out of office now.

If Mr. Christie really didn't know about this cheap exercise in political payback...

...THEN, his top aide would NOT have taken the fifth over a dozen times!

C'mon WSJ.

WSJ. Have you figured out why Christie (apparently and tacitly) endorsed Obama in the late stages of the '12 election? One suspects that it was to defeat Romney in order to have the nomination wide open for him in 16. (Suspicion, not a provable fact, unless of course an aide blabs something.)

Mister Christie, quite simply, is NOT a person that we want as bearer of the GOP standard.

The WSJ has made the obvious argument, the right argument and the easy one. This story is much worse for Obama than Christie.

The entire event and the reaction and the long press conference MAKE OBAMA LOOK BAD, by the stark contrast, alone.

(Providing nothing surfaces to contradict Christie, or implicate him directly.)

I disagree with Christie on the issues, but I believe that he didn’t know what was going on and has held those who transgressed accountable.

He has provided an admirable contrast to Obama, who never holds anyone accountable for even the most egregious misdeeds.

But this does call into question Christie’s lack of judgement and oversight in dealing with his staff. He’s the one who hired those hacks.

The long knives are out for fat boy. MSNBC been on this story 24 hours per day and even FNC was forced to do segments on it.

Neal Cavuto did the best (least boring) segment on it where he says :
Not only the LEFT is using this to get Chris Christie but so is the EXTREME right”

Then he immediately plays a clip of Rush, and then one of Mark Levin both attacking Chrispy.

Rush and Levin 'the extreme right'....LOLO,

And Levin's a semi regular on the show and Cavuto always introduces him as ‘The Great One’ made up by Hannity I think. He even has had Rush on more than once.

Neil is such a character. (I DVR his show)

I find the comparison to be irrelevant. Christie’s running for office.

Obama was running for office when the IRS deliberately delayed for months the approval of applications from conservative groups for tax-exempt status. This was a gross abuse of power, much more sinister than blocking traffic on a bridge. There is actually no comparison between the two in order of magnitude of the offense.

To suggest that Christie is contrite compared to Obama’s absence of any contrition is irrelevant. I don’t believe Christie is contrite at all. His public display of “contrition” is disingenuous. Christie’s running for office. What else is he going to do, act as if he could give a care? Obama is in his second term. There will be no more presidential election cycles for him, unlike Christie.

Well, let’s see - Christie came out and at least voiced personal responsibility; Obama vaguely blamed some obscure others and never said a word about his own possible culpability - Christie dug right in and interviewed all his close staff members to try to get to the bottom of what happened; Obama feigned outrage and never mentioned the issue again - Christie removed two close advisers within a matter of hours when he learned the details of the matter; Lois Lerner and the political-appointee IRS counsel who’ve been implicated in the IRS affair are still on the federal payroll - Christie is standing aside to let the ‘rat-controlled legislature and the ‘rat state attorney investigate; Obama has appointed a long-time supporter and big donor to his campaign to investigate the IRS accusations - both Bridgegate and the IRS scandal involve the misuse of government power against those seen as opposing those in office - so far Christie has acted forthrightly and effectively; Obama has followed the standard Democrat SOP and lied, obfuscated, dodged, and generally as usual kept his head buried up his a$$......

I’m with you on everything you said. Christie is not my BFF. Freepers are doing the bidding of the left and they don’t even realize it. SUCKERS! Reactionary and blinded by the realities at hand. What a coup for the Obama/Clinton/nsa/rino crime syndicates. What has happened to my beloved Free Republic? Group think! Boo!

The way is now clear for Jeb. They want another Bush vs Clinton matchup. Got to keep the dynasty in place.

LOL, 2016 is a ways off.

It will be dead by then.
Unlike Hillary he fired people and ‘apologized’ for dramatic effect;.

Chrispie Cream will be back. We just don't know what he will do with it.
