A political retaliation scandal that erupted around Republican New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Wednesday may be about to get worse.
In September, according to a report from the Bergen Record, paramedics trying to reach an unconscious 91-year-old woman in Fort Lee, N.J., got stuck in a traffic jam that had apparently been created by Christie's associates as political punishment for the borough's mayor, a Democrat. Multiple lanes were forced to merge into one, gridlocking traffic for days.
The woman later died at a hospital of cardiac arrest, according to a Sept. 10 letter that EMS coordinator Paul Favia sent to the borough's mayor.

“During the power outage, Southern electricians were sent up to help bring it back on-line, and were sent home for not being Union. Viciously.”
That was in New York not New Jersey.
An only slightly restrained version of Mayor McCrack, Rob Ford of Toronto, Chris Christie has depended on bluster and imposing size to intimidate and mesmerize opponents and erstwhile supporters in his ride to the big-time.
Not nearly as criminal as Robert Torricelli, but not entirely with clean hands either. New Jersey richly rewards these flamboyant personalities, but why should they inflicted upon the rest of the territory once known as “the United States of America”?
Perhaps, by now, the unfortunate residents of that tormented have come to deserve no better.
(Jeb Bush presents Hillary Clinton with the 2013 Liberty Medal September 10, 2013, day before Benghazi the anniversary of the Benghazi attack.)
Political egos play games using the little people as the pawns on the board.
"Perhaps the fact that she was 91 years old was more of a factor in her untimely demise."
There is no official Federal or State standard for response times in the United States. Response time standards frequently do exist in the form of contractual obligations between communities and EMS provider organizations, however. As a result, there is typically considerable variation between standards in one community and another. New York City, for example, mandates a 10 minute response time on emergency calls, while some communities in California have moved response time standards to 1215 minutes. It is generally accepted within the field that an 'ideal' response time for emergency calls would be within eight minutes, ninety-percent of the time, but this objective is rarely achieved, and current research results question the validity of that standard.
So a 91 year old had a cardiac arrest, and in traffic the EMS response time was still within a time frame considered "ideal". Hillary (or her handlers) must be getting very worried. (Just as well, I didn't think Christie was nominateable as a Republican for president in 2016.)
Yes. They heap praises upon each other and promote each other. It’s sickening. And there’s too damn many of them in power.
He said he finished his am workout and received from his chief of staff information at 8:50 or 8:55 am on the 8th of January. That was yesterday morning. Later in the press conference he said he had been up for 2 nights worrying about this issue. So, my question is, "Why did he worring about this the night of Jan. 7? He had, by his own admission, not yet been made aware of this problem. So why was he up for 2 nights worrying about this. He had only known about this for one NIGHT . not two.
Was he playing fast and loose with his words, or am I making a mountain out of a mole hill?
The biggest problem is that when a 91 year-old person dies as a result of negligence or even criminal conduct, it's very hard to make the case for a huge monetary settlement. The plaintiffs in this type of case can't demonstrate any hardship related to loss of income, for example, and can't demonstrate that they are facing medical bills and other financial challenges as a result of the alleged negligence or crime.
And here's where it gets bizarre, and even unseemly ...
In cases like this, insurance companies and defendants with a lot of money use attorneys with a special expertise in law involving elderly victims. They are experts in calculating and documenting all of the financial costs of keeping someone like this 91 year-old woman alive -- because these costs would offset any financial loss the plaintiffs can document. In effect, these lawyers will make a very compelling case that -- from a purely financial perspective -- the defendant(s) did the plaintiffs a favor by causing the elderly person's death. How effed-up is that?
I’m no fan of Christie, but I can certainly believe that he had no knowledge of this. He was so far ahead in that governor’s race that he hardly needed the endorsement of the mayor of Fort Lee to make a difference.
Apparently the signal was given for Democrats to turn against their useful idiot RINO. Usually this doesn’t happen until after the primaries.
Do we know who was actually responsible for this yet? And, yes, the buck stops with Christie, but he has fired people hasn’t he?
Originally, I liked the open discussion and search for TRUTH on the part of the majority on FReeRepublic. THAT is far better than knee-jerk emotional reactions.
I do not want Christie as the candidate against Benghazi Hillary in 2016 and I am very upset with things he has done but I will not jump on the judgment bandwagon until I have substantive truth.
Christie should say “Hey at least I didnt let the woman drown alive in a car like Teddy Kennedy did”
......and what about the slaughter at Benghazi because Obama did nothing?
It doesn’t matter. Just intentionally causing traffic delays for citizens is an act of despotism that should carry a mandatory death penalty.
I’ve been reading articles on these emails but I have yet to understand how the Bergan Record got them. I see the images they have up and it looks like it’s all on gmail, not state owned email system.
I’m curious if they were hacked or part of some investigation. Any know?
7 minutes...damn that’s quick...nothing close to that here where I live...
I would love to see the EKG tape or download before I make a decision.
If her heart stopped and the EMTs were in charge they had all he necessary tools to handle the problem.
If the heart stopped in Hospital, would arrival time been a factor.
Sometimes with the best doctors and care sometimes we do not get the results we want. I and others have been on both sides.
My sympathy to the woman’s family.
May God Bless the Victim and her family!
Perhaps he could use the Obama ruse of, “I just found out about in the newspapers today.”
I suspect Christi is a vicious venal fool. I do not know if he knew what had happened. However, no staffer with a modicum of intelligence would do what was done unless they thought Christi would approve.
Not for long. What goes around comes around. There’s a big fat Karma train headed down Christie’s track.
You are absolutley right. Christie just could not shut up his big fat mouth in today’s press conference.
His advisers should have told him to make it short and sweet—no questions after.
He is being badly handled, but he deserves it.
