GLENDALE (CBSLA.com) A University of Southern California professor says there is no danger in eating Pacific Ocean-caught fish despite concerns about possible radiation contamination from Japans Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant.
Dr. Daniel Stram, a preventative medicine professor, studied the effects of radiation from Hiroshima and Nagasaki and said the data collected so far on Fukushima does not show a health risk.
Theres no danger from Fukushima with the fish that we eat, he said.
CBS2s Juan Fernandez reported from Fish King in Glendale Wednesday night, where owner Jon Kagawa said imported bluefin tuna was no longer on the menu because of online reports that claim radiation levels in the Pacific were off the charts.
I think for the most part we try to take everything with a bit of caution nowadays. Its kinda like information overload, and you really dont know how true the information really is, Kagawa said.
Kagawa said while all fish cant be tested for radiation, the FDA does conduct spot checks on all fish brought into the United States.
Dr. Stram can feel free to eat all the Pacific fish he wants. As for me...no thanks!

Yeah, just like cell phones do not cause cancer.
These fish make for intimate dinners, that slight bluish glow and all.
You do understand the difference between ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, right? Do you understand radio frequency "skin effect", right?
Think of all the money you'll save on flashlight batteries!
I wonder what the radiation levels in SF Bay were BEFORE the Fukushima problem ?
I’ll believe it when I see Dr. Stram eat several pieces of fish proven to be just caught on the Atlantic Coast.
Radiation is radiation. Too much of it will eventually do you in.
Fine. I’ll eat your share. Gulf of Mexico shrimp, as well ... and Smallmouth Bass from the Shenandoah.
Bump
No need for fishing sonar, just fish at night, you should be able to easily spot the glowing fish after dark.
Thank you for demonstrating your utter ignorance regarding radiation. I’m an Radio Frequency (RF) Engineer. (MSEE Georgia Tech ‘87) I’ve worked with RF for over 30 years. You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.
I think you meant PACIFIC coast
USC is not part of the California college system. It’s a private school.
well ya gotta die from something...............
Please discuss the similarities and differences among Gamma radiation, X-Ray radiation, ultraviolet, visible, near-infrared, short-wave infrared, far infrared, microwave, and the various bands of radio frequency ... all from the perspective of health physics.
Please define "background radiation", and discuss the geographic variations in same.
Please compare whatever anthropogenic radiation source(s) which cause you concern to background radiation, and to the geographic variations in it.
Thank you.
Couple of questions: P25 trunking, will civilian scanners be able to track it.
And, Do any of the WIFI boosters work?
Point of fact is that radioactive particles from the Fukushima incident, including iodine-131 and caesium-134/137, have not been found at Half Moon Bay. The increased level of radiation there is from natural sources such as radon gas from uranium decay, radium and thorium. Alex Jones is making lots of money off this nonsense. Natural radiation is not evenly distributed just as the source materials are not evenly distributed. The “old oil pipe” theory makes some sense.
