Caleb Jacoby, teenage son of Boston Globe columnist Jeff Jacoby, is missing

BROOKLINE — Caleb Jacoby, the 16-year-old son of Boston Globe columnist Jeff Jacoby and his wife Laura, has been missing since about 12:30 p.m. Monday.

Jacoby is a Brookline resident who is in the 11th grade at Maimonides School. According to a flier distributed by the Combined Jewish Philanthropies and Maimonides School, he is 5-foot-11 and 140 pounds with a thin build and short, light brown hair.

Brookline police said the teenager was last seen wearing navy chino pants or jeans, a navy polo shirt, a brown winter jacket with a hood, brown shoes or sneakers, and white socks. He frequents public libraries and Young Israel of Brookline on Green Street.

Right—it gets coverage from a paper in the UK, but not by the father’s newspaper employer in Boston.

I don’t know if it was a misprint, but I read somewhere that he was in junior high, maybe they meant a junior IN high school. It just made me think that maybe he has issues like autism which would explain why they don’t suspect foul play????

I would like to think that political views wouldn’t come into play with a child’s safety, but you never know. :-(

I thought it was new that the authorities have said they don’t suspect foul play. (Which in my mind directs it toward runaway, accident or suicide.)

If you poke around the school site you find that they have several Social Workers who might deal with that sort of thing.

Or maybe he found a nice warm girl on a cold day.

You make reference to stranger kidnapping and parental kidnapping.While both types surely do occur my knowledge of Jeff Jacoby’s decency gives me the sense that if the boy *was* kidnapped a stranger is the more likely culprit.Although I have no way of being sure my hunch is that Jacoby might be worth a few quid.

The only other thing I can think of is his parents are splitting up and one of them took off with him.

Child of well known conservative Jewish columnist goes missing...

Doubtful it is either parental or ransom in nature. I’d be more worried about random violent crime or sudden jihad syndrome.
