It will add more than two hours to the ride. Slower traffic means that more cars are on the road at any given time. The increased number of cars will create more traffic snarls.
This is insane. If timed well, that stretch of the NY Thruway from Buffalo to the MA border is a safe, well managed drive.

Take Route 20, if the weather allows.
One of the most beautiful roads in the country and probably 1/10 the police force that I-90 has. And it’s free. If I-90 speed limit drops to 55mph, then Route 20 may be quicker.
