I lived in Evanston, IL 1983-85. I think in the winter on 83-84, a record was set where the temperature did not go above 0 for 30 days. The coldest it got during that time was -27, and with the wind chill factor, it was -77. Classes were not cancelled.

In Missouri we were -15 for two weeks straight during that same time period.

I just saw where my alma mater, Appalachian State, was closing tomorrow because it is cold.

Seriously? They made me walk across campus to class in those same temps.

So? It isnt a pissing contest.

It’s too bad that the adults at that time didnt give a toss about the students, and thought that -77 Wind chill was completely safe for students to go walk around in.

Being stupid in Evanston =/= Let’s do this everywhere.

I remember that winter. It was much the same in Michigan. It was also the year I went to winter survival school for Civil Air Patrol. The 2 nights we were out it went to -20 at night. They had to emergency evac. a few cadets in the middle of the night for hypothermia. Needless to say, they didn't pass.
