Contestant of British reality show "Celebrity Big Brother" ex-heavyweight boxing champ, Evander Holyfield caused an outrage with degrading anti-gay comments and has now been warned by the show makers.
Holyfield in conversation with Luisa Zissman said that being gay was not normal, and that they could be treated by a doctor just like the physically disabled.
"The Bible lets you know, that's wrong, that's right. If you were born and your leg were turned this way, what do you do, you go to the doctor and get it fixed back right... All I'm trying to tell you, you know how handicapped people are born, you can't say because they were born that way,"
The retired boxer's opinion did not go down well with Zissman, who explained that such comparison did not hold valid since "it's not a choice." To this the boxer retorted, "Yes it is a choice, come on, that ain't the way nobody is made."
Soon after, Holyfield was called to the confession room where he was warned and told that his comments were offensive and went against the show's rules. The boxer said he understood the situation but failed to apologize and said that his comments were his personal opinion and was not aimed at anyone.
Reacting to Holyfield's anti-gay comments, English singer Boy Gerorge took to Twitter to express his disgust at the boxer's controversial comments.
"Shame, I had such admiration for Mr Evander Holyfield, he seemed dignified and I was sure he was a cool, smart, giant!"
"I think anyone visiting this country for any reason should be cautioned and forced to swear allegiance to 'Queens & country!!" and added "At customs there should be a huge sign! Welcome to Britain, racism, sexism, homophobia and bad hair are not tolerated!" 5Holyfields' anti-gay comments on 5 January's episode also had him nominated for eviction along with Zissman for failing to execute a task.
The media sure didn’t seem to care about Richard Hatch and his overtly homosexual self-promotion in reality shows in spite of not only being offensive to many Americans but also with a history of sexually assaulting another participant (Sue Hawk). He later was charged with sexual assault of a child but managed to beat that rap. He went to prison a few times, first for tax fraud. He also was convicted of assault against another homosexual man over something to do with Hatch’s adopted SON. (That’s right. He was able to adopt a sexually abused boy who apparently had a homosexual relationship with the male caregiver Hatch picked for him, and Hatch assaulted the caregiver. But not for the reasons we would have wanted him punished.)
Well, in our society, failing to pay taxes will put you in jail faster than sexual assault.
Hatch was jailed for over 4 years for tax evasion. His attorneys have argued that the prosecution and conviction were flawed because the IRS never completed investigation of his 2000 and 2001 tax returns and never determined that any particular sum of taxes was due
RE: Yes, I realize that, but what is degrading about what he said?
In 21st century America?
Anything that suggests a gay person is abnormal is considered “degrading”.
God bless Evander Holyfield. He has always been a man of God and will tell the truth about homosexuality.
People don’t understand what normal really means, it means what you could reasonably expect. Or a vast majority occurs in such a way. By the tradition of the word, normal is opposite sex relationships, and homosexuality is not, because it is a small minority of the population, not what to regularly expect of a person.
I don’t understand how sexual behavior isn’t a choice. As attractive as some woman I see on the street is for me, well, actually having sex with her is another matter entirely pal, it actually takes some kind of effort to do that.
As for claiming that homosexuality is inborn, one is essentially claiming it as a disability. People who claim disabilities claim recommendations to make conditions fair for them. People with numerous disabilities such as Down Syndrome or Autism have actual predispositions that are inborn or develop from nurture factors in early childhood, a lot of experts now believe the autism may be related to a reaction in the immune system.
Even in the case of someone with Aspergers Disorder, yes, I have a predisposition to feel %^&& if I feel like someone is interrupting me, but that’s no excuse to let the feelings of anger take the better of me.
My own experience with the fring activists is irritating, especially when so many of them view me and my oddities with a condescending attitude, in fact, easily more condescending than most of your average religious individuals do.
Homosexuals also have disproportionate obesity in their numbers too.
Abnormal is a fact, when something is outside of the vast majority, it is statistically an abnormality.
He is a fine singer, with an underrated voice (I have seen him sing soul, gospel and blues and he was superb). Culture Club made some great pop records.
And I am looking forward to you being disappointed. I’d also look forward to you actually coming here and seeing the UK (not just London btw) for yourself.
Erm, keep up lads.
He lost all that weight last year and looks fitter and slimmer than he has for 20 yrs.
Well, I wouldn’t want to be in London again. I might get decapitated while people just stand around watching.
Or raped, like that London girl Kitty Genovese all those years ago, when all those 38 Londoners did nothing.
Don’t worry, if you do get decapitated, you can pull out your good old US of A handgun and shoot them dead. Whilst m*sturbating with the other hand to the thought of being American.
Nice.... your decorum is unmatched.
Exactly. Humans can only be reproduced heterosexually.
So believing in an undebatable fact of science is “hate speech!”
I’m sure the “Reverend” Jesse Jackson will call Holyfield “racist!” for it.
Imagine how those same folks would react if they actually read the Bible and found out what God says about this topic!
I am not usually that crude, but I am so sick and tired of the post-Rigby macho posturing BS from America, sick of being told just what y’all would have gone done if it had just happened in the US of A rather than Limeytown.
Nothing to do with having a gun or not. I saw the video, with people just wheeling their groceries by. Someone should have done something, but nobody seemed to care.
I think they do, and that's why they feel they need all sorts of protection and "acceptance".
How do they explain natural reproduction of a species then?
