There should be no worries of a snowless Winter Olympic in Russias Sochi, as the organizers of the event made sure to stockpile 16 million cubic feet of snow for the competitions.
Though it has been a record warm winter for Moscow, the organizers of the Sochi Olympics can guarantee that there will be enough snow for the athletes in any weather at the Black sea resort of Sochi in Russia.
There will be four different forms of technology used to ensure snowy Olympics in 2014. First of all, eight vaults have been storing snow for over a year under special blankets made from isothermal fabric to keep it from defrosting. The containers are located along the Olympic slopes of the Roza Khutor ski resort on Aibgy Mountain, which will host the event.
Second, there are hundreds of snow cannons scattered around the slopes. They use water from the mountain lakes to make artificial snow.
In addition, a special kind of snow salt is being used as a kind of glue for when and if the snow melts. And finally, mountain gutters gather snow falling at the highest peaks and transport it down to the slopes.
Of course technology is also being utilized by competitors going for gold.
We are trying to figure out which lubricants are going to provide maximum acceleration in the Sochi snow so that later we could share our findings with the services that are to prepare the equipment for the Russian ski athletes at the Olympic Games, skier Aleksandr Schastnykh told RTs Thabang Motsei. To the global warming advocates before you get carried away -

“”MOSCOW A bitter cold spell in Russia has claimed 123 lives in the past 10 days, an official said Tuesday, with the unseasonably early freeze testing authorities in a country used to notoriously tough winters.
Temperatures have plunged to up to minus 30 degrees Celsius (minus 34 degrees Fahrenheit) in the Moscow region and up to minus 60 degrees Celsius (minus 51 degrees Fahrenheit) in Eastern Siberia.
Since the start of the cold, 123 people have died of exposure and frostbite, a medical source was quoted by the Interfax news agency as saying.

I can’t wait for the gorebull warming crowd to assign blame for the lack of snow. We are below normal in the Northwest for snowfall also, but they are making up for it east of us.
An Olympic event in Canton South Dakota 1937 lacked an important ingredient so they had to use their current technology by hauling it in via railroad.

Looking at a map, Sochi seemed like a strange place to have the winter olympics. It’s also the warmest place in Russia right now: http://www.weather-forecast.com/maps/Russia
“Storing snow” for over a year, in warehouses? Does. Not. Compute.
Bah! 'Tis merely a light chill in the air.
Yeah that’s a pretty rough neighborhood.

It’s the Olympic curse. It always happens. When the winter games were at Whistler we had an El Nino winter with some of the most amazingly warm and sunny winter weather ever.
I know it’s the Olympic curse, but I am anticipating the usual suspects saying the usual drivel about gorebull warming.
Agreed. I hope they've tried this system before. No matter what the temp, snow piled high eventually turns to ice. It starts out as little ice spheres and eventually all locks together. I hope they have a shredder to make it back into "snow." It might come out like snow cone ice.
Ask Obama. He thinks he knows everything. Pretty sure he actually does know about this stuff.
