I really admire people who live in real snow country. As a native of the Southwest U.S., I’ve never had to endure the sort of ice and snow they regularly contend with.
About the worst winter I ever experienced, was when I lived for a time in southern England. For months, everything was blanketed in a layer of pure white frost. I never even knew what the temperature was because it was always expressed in Celsius. All I knew is that I was freezing my tookis off every day of the week, and it seemed like it would never end.
It gets colder than I like in DFW, but it’s mostly manageable. When it gets lower than 37 degrees outside, we can’t work, but thankfully there aren’t too many of those days.
Its not so bad. Now that I’m older I don’t waste much time on winter. I’m kind of an ant. I spend my summer and fall with an eye on making winter easy and try to relax and stay inside.
When I was younger my friends and I proved how tough we were by being out and around in the worst possible weather. However I have got an urge to do some icefishing but I think I’ll wait till the rough stuff passes.
I love the wintertime and the snow ‘season’. I had quite a lot up here last year but a bit lighter this year....so far. (More coming for sure). It is about 700 yards down the mountain to the nearest paved road so keeping that plowed is critical. The state road fellas do a great job on there end of things and there is never a time I can’t get all the way down into the ‘big’ town. I usually scoot down about 3 times a week for groceries and to shoot the breeze at a couple local watering holes but that is about it. It is definitely a different lifestyle and I completely understand folks not liking it. The low temps, ice and snow absolutely have to be respected.
37F!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is shirtsleeve weather. We open the windows at 37F.
We have an actual -24 predicted overnight Sunday and -20 overnight Monday. It stays cold, but warms up until we are in positive territory on Thursday and nearly 30 by Friday.
We are used to it. I’ve noticed our bad winters run in threes. This is the second in a row. About ten years ago we had -35 for nearly a week, with -20 and minus teens in the daytime. Three winters ago, it was so warm in December and January, I remember telling the propane driver we really had no need for gas, since we’d barely used any.
Back in the 70s, this was pretty much average winter weather. I really miss the warm years of the 80s and 90s, though.
Oh stop it.
We'd kill for 37 degrees.
Am leaving Tuesday for a one week trip to Missouri, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. My cousins there told me it has been cold! So day before yesterday I sent them a pic of grandson in shorts and a tshirt titled.....January in California.
