I HATE the use of the wind chill factor and ‘feels like’ to describe the actual temperature. Just tell me the dang temperature...
I get confused with all that too. I've resorted to just poking my head outside to figure out what the day's going to be like.
Actually, “feels like” is the low information voter way of saying “removes heat from a body (of mass above freezing temperature) as fast as that temp with no wind.” It is actually a scientific measure of heat loss.
So at a wind chill of -20, you would lose as much heat (and freeze to death) as fast as at -20 temp with no wind. But at 33 degrees F, no matter the wind chill, ice won’t form.
Just FYI.
It's two different things.
If it's cloudy out and 50 degrees, you'll probably be OK in a just a light jacket. But if you hop on your Harley and go 70 MPH for 20 minutes...
(it's still 60 degrees)
