Use scoring water and follow instructions on cleaning with vinegar or purchased decalcifier. Water in your area makes a difference. Read the user booklet.

Seriously, Jack, if you clean them a little bit (the cup container in the dishwasher and flush them with vinegar) they will last a little longer.

Ditto that. They are great we we like ours, but they will crap out on you. Buy it at costco and they will replace it. Keep your receipt! we're on our third one.
