Yes! I would never return a rental vehicle when the site I was returning it to was closed. Make sure there is someome there to take the keys and inspect the vehicle, do the whole process. And get a signed return receipt.
Agreed.
I’m primarily concerned about charges for fuel and damages, and also mistakes in paperwork. But haven’t put much thought into the stolen vehicle.
I had a 6am flight out of JFK. The rental people said, ‘Yes, you can return the car at 5am.’ Five am comes around, I show up at the return lot, and the gate is closed. So, I returned the car to the fire lane at the airport, walked in, and got my plane. Never heard back from them.
Alwaya get a sign-off of no damage if possible. Rental companies love to try and sneak unknown damage claims thru after turn in.
That's not always possible when you're traveling on business and have a late or very early flight to catch.
