> The police might be able to detain you until you’re positively identified. They can usually do that by getting name, birthdate and jurisdiction you have your ID in, if you don’t have it on you. That’s happened to me before, and they check it out and verify it.

Also bear in mind they are the most lied to profession in the world. They hear lies just about every hour on the job so say about 40 50 hours a week. You work at that job for any amount of time and it gets hard to take people for their word. You build up a residual hostility and have to deal with unreasonable people (that are often insane or bad substance abusers or both). Its no wonder they take out their anger on someone when they’re having a bad day; not that it’s right or professional to do so...just my .02

Until the LEO are properly educated on the laws regarding carry, the camera is an essential tool that should always be used. In fact, it should be a wireless camera that transmits and stores the data remotely so when confiscated, the data is not destroyed. When lawsuits start occurring in significant numbers against these LEO abusers, they will become more educated and these instances will subside.

I always carry it with me, unless I’m riding the bike in the neighborhood. But, otherwise, I always carry it, because there are many instances where I have to have ID.

I might swing by the bank, while I’m out and didn’t think about it before. I might want to get a bottle of cough medicine from the store shelf. I might be run over while riding my bike, and I’ll want someone to identify me, if I’m unconscious and knocked out for days, or event months. I might have to show who I am, when I am picking up a kid from school (and I’m authorized to do so, by paperwork in the office).

What I find ... is there are all sorts of reasons for having ID and it saves me another trip out, if I didn’t think about it beforehand.

OH ... and of course, there is the open carry law and concealed carry law that requires ID. If I want to carry concealed, then I’ll need to have my ID.

> They can ask someone to leave for no reason at all. So, even if the policy was posted (or not) they can tell you to leave. All businesses have have the right to order someone off the property.

Unless you’re gay and kneel before the Obama altar. Then you can tell the business to leave or bake you a cake...

What you don’t seem to understand is that’s the LAW for those who open carry from Oklahoma. You HAVE TO HAVE a concealed carry permit in order to open carry. That’s the law.

She clearly had reviewed the laws and requirements, far better than the LEOs. Do NOT slight her for that—it’s the LEO’s job to know this.

Missouri does allow open carry of firearms for those age 18 or older. However, city, county, and municipalities are allowed to pass laws and ordinances restricting this. It is advisable to check local laws and ordinances before openly carrying a firearm within Missouri.

This is what I said up above, to that ... :-) ...

If it’s shown that you order all blacks off your business property - you’re going to be in a heap of trouble ... :-) ...

If you order all women off your business property, you’re going to be in just as much trouble.

If you order all who vote for the GOP off your business property, you’re going to be in a heap of trouble.

If you order all Catholics off your business property, you’re going to be in a heap of trouble.

If you order all wheelchair people off your business property, you’re going to be in a heap of trouble,

SO ... you see ... there are a whole lot of other people you can get in trouble about - in terms of ordering them off your business property

And here, we’re talking about business property that is open to the public to come in and “do business” with them.

From you I expect more, fellow club member!

They seem to have been from Oklahoma.

But (per the FIRST sentence of the article) they were in Missouri.

I referred to the Missouri open-carry statute that I looked up, which does not seem to mention any special out-of-state exclusions to its basic open-carry principles.

I'm not a lawyer, nor am I one who open carries in public. In addition I live in a place where law enforcement officers are almost universally public servants, first and foremost.

But I think it is a grave mistake to assume that one must look to the government for permission to assemble, walk the streets, worship, bear arms and so on.

The Constitution tells us specifically what the government cannot demand of us; further it tells us that what it does not mention is left for us freely to decide.

I am stunned when I see conservatives passively accepting the premise that we must be "permitted" or "licensed" or given some special nod in order to live our lives.

Missouri can “stop and ID” ...

I said they were from Oklahoma ... :-) ...

And when states respect each other laws regarding carrying guns — you DO have to be authorized in your home state, when traveling. And, of course, the other state has to respect the law concerning you carrying that weapon.

They’re not IN Oklahoma. First line of the story.

Right, also not known is what did the person who called into the police say was happening which caused the police to respond the way they did?

I'm all for giving the police shit when they deserve it, but that requires knowing both sides of the story (ie: "what was said by the person who called into the police?")

Agree the cop was overly-aggressive in the beginning ("your papers please!") beyond that though it seemed like he was doing his job. What most people don't know/understand is that once an officer has your ID in his hand, he's required to run a check for any outstanding warrants, and detain you on the spot if there are.

At least that's what happens here in das People's Socialist RepuliK of Illinois.......

And, of course, the other state has to respect the law concerning you carrying that weapon.

And that is the point in question that most police officers do not know.

Prior to Illinois' Conceal/Carry law being passed, if you carried in Illinois, it didn't matter what state you were from - you were going to jail first, THEN the police would figure it out.

It's so bad in Shitcago, we have the Shitcago Chief of Police openly saying that anyone practicing conceal/carry within city limits risks getting shot by the Shitcago police. Apparently they're too stupid to tell the good guys from the bad guys I guess.
