The government has asked a New York judge to release a dying former civil rights lawyer who was convicted in a terrorism case from prison.

The government made the request on behalf of Lynne Stewart...

The 74-year-old Stewart was not scheduled for release until August 2018. Prosecutors say she suffers from recurrent stage-four breast cancer.

Stewart has been imprisoned since 2009 after she was convicted of helping a blind Egyptian sheik communicate with his followers from prison.

Reminds me of the case of Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi who supposedly had “terminal prostate cancer”, so they released him on phony humanitarian grounds, to a hero’s welcome in Libya. No doubt they have the same scam planned for her as well.

"Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed al-Megrahi was head of security for Libyan Arab Airlines, director of the Centre for Strategic Studies in Tripoli, Libya, and an alleged Libyan intelligence officer. On 31 January 2001, Megrahi was convicted, by a panel of three Scottish judges sitting in a special court at Camp Zeist in the Netherlands, of 270 counts of murder for the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, on 21 December 1988 and was sentenced to life imprisonment. Megrahi was freed on compassionate grounds by the Scottish Government on 20 August 2009 following doctors reporting on 10 August 2009 that he had terminal prostate cancer and was expected to have around three months to live. On his return to Libya, al-Megrahi was initially hospitalized but was allowed to leave on 2 November 2009, taking up residence in a villa in Tripoli. In October 2011 Al-Megrahi gave an interview from his bed in which he claimed that he had only days, weeks or months to live. He died on 20 May 2012, two years and 9 months after his release."

What difference, at this time, does it make?

From the point of view of personal comfort, it makes little difference if the inmate dies in prison, or confined to a deathbed should she be released. Men have judged her, it is up to the Lord (whether she personally believes in a divinity or not) how she shall be judged in the afterlife.

And no, she shall NEVER be responsible for her own cancer treatment costs, whether released or not. Some “compassionate” government agency would be called upon to provide the hospice care right up to the end.
