What does this have to do with a hospital?

What exactly did the hospital do wrong?

Lots of people pay for their own weight loss surgery. If this was my child I would do everything in my power to pay for it myself. I’m sure the doctors and hospital would be willing to take payments. They could even go to their church or other organizations to ask for help.

People are going to have to learn to take care of themselves. Just because insurance denies something doesn’t mean you can’t have it. Making sure your children get what they need is the most important thing you do.

I feel sorry for this young girl. I hope her family finds a solution.

I agree that there are other options. However insurance companies are a big part of the problem. They will routinely deny care just to save money, not because the insured isn’t entitled to the care under the contract. Hoping the person will go away or find a cheaper option.

Thank you. I’m sure there are those who will not agree.

I do get tired of people running to the press for sympathy points before all other options have been looked in to. I can’t tell you how many times someone has said to me that they can’t take a certain drug because their insurance denied it. When I ask them why they don’t pay for it themselves they act shocked.

I really do hope she gets the help she needs and would even been willing to contribute to a fund to help if her parents really couldn’t afford it.

Sometimes we have to take matters into our own hands.

Yes, there are times you have to fight the insurance company. What’s more important is getting your child the help she/he needs. You can’t just sit around and say well the insurance company won’t pay for it so sorry kid you’re just going to have to suffer. Everybody can’t get on tv and have a sympathetic blond chick get your insurance company to pay.

It’s not going to get any better.

Well in today’s environment using the media and social networking is a very effective way of putting pressure on the insurance companys.

If I recall correctly the surgery is $50k. The sort of thing people buy insurance for. The bigger concern is they said she was too young for the surgery which is different then ‘its not covered’.

However insurance companies are a big part of the problem.

I agree completely, but after fighting the insurance company the media shouldn't be the next stop at it only very rarely ever works and is often a time waster when other options are viable.

I would think that often enough time and energy is wasted that no other options are pursued.

When my son needed a major surgery which wasn’t covered by the insurance I negotiated lower fees from the doctors and hospital that the insurance would pay.

Well there were no pediatric neurosurgeons or pediatric cranial-facial plastic surgeons on our plan.

All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.

If you are a member of the inner party, health care is assured.

If you are a member of the outer party, you can get the costly bare bones “Bronze Plan”.

If you are a prol, you get a death panel and a bucket of fried chicken.
