“LEDs in a closed fixture and\or inverted will burn out before an incandescent.”
Where did you read that? We installed under-the-counter (inverted), closed-fixture LEDs during a kitchen renovation 4 or 5 years ago. We haven't replaced one yet. The incandescent bulbs they replaced typically lasted about 1 year.

“It is interesting that they [LEDs] share the same heat problems with CFLs.”
Again, my experience is very different. My father-in-law (who is an architect) just installed under-the-counter CFLs in his new retirement home. They generate so much heat, I think they are a hazard. Our under-the-counter LEDs generate almost no heat.

Why would it matter if I drop and break an LED bulb? They don't contain mercury. Because they cost $25 instead of 25 cents.

ILBs waste energy. They are short lived. They are dangerous as they can cause fires. Sounds like Thomas Edison wackobird talk about Alternative Current.

some alleged energy savings whos paying for that electricity anyway? Fools. Damned fools.
This is ONLY about saving 'lectricity so that the wiener clown cars can be recharged off your house electrical system without adding additional burden on the power grid.
Oh, and those "better mousetrap" digital televisions use more power than the old CRTs.

The ECO Freaks screamed about mercury batteries in cameras, watches etc. going into landfills years ago which was going to kill us all, so they were banned. Now the same type of a$$holes don't even blink about florescent light bulbs that have their own load of mercury and will end up in landfills, Dipsh*t socialists! Stalinists lie. ALWAYS.

Personally, I'm moving to LED bulbs! Why spend money on a bulb which creates 90% heat and only 10% light? It is a very different quality of light. And may even have uninvestigated subconscious psychological effects.
Anyone who wants them should be able to buy them. Period.

I have mine. I have been stockpiling for a month now. I have over 300 in the garage. Mostly 40 and 60 watt but a few 15, 25, and 75. A couple of 90 watt too.
I was in several stores this last week (Lowe’s, Home Despot, and Dollar stores) and the shelves are picked clean.
